My Toe Is Swollen And Numb

A Baker's Cyst is a well defined sac of fluid that occurs in the posterior part of the knee. This type of cyst is also know as a popliteal cyst because of its location in the popliteal region (backside) of the knee. These cysts contain knee joint fluid that has been pressured out of its encapsulation. This article teaches why these cysts develop and the medical symptoms you need to be aware of. I am constantly wearing flip flops no matter what the weather is, or where i am.

Do you know if its a problem? is there a solution

    • ANSWER:

Although I think the problem is 'most-likely' long and or short term allergic reactions to 'something' COMBINED WITH a weakened lymph liver kidney and immune systems - IF the following symptoms would ever occur - I think the worst it might possibly be is deadly bacterial meningitis.

The two quotes below are from: <> <>

“IF a rash is present, it may indicate a particular cause of meningitis; for instance, meningitis caused by meningococcal bacteria may be accompanied by a characteristic rash.”

“The MOST common symptoms of meningitis are headache and neck stiffness associated with fever, confusion or altered consciousness, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate light (photophobia) or loud noises (phonophobia). SOMETIMES, especially in small children, only nonspecific symptoms may be present, such as irritability and drowsiness.”

Stubbed my toe, swollen and numb?
I got off of my chair after eating and being the kluts I am stubbed it on the leg of a wooden chair. I almost fell to the floor because it hurt so bad. I got all red and now it's swollen compared to the same toe on my left foot. At the base of the nail it's a slight purple and blue color. It's still pretty numb but with a burning pain. It's the fourth toe right next to the pinkie or baby toe. Did I break it or something? How can i treat it? Thanks in advance!

    Toe swollen and numb?
no wound or anything. I was running on the grass with my dog and then suddenly a piece of grass was between my last toe and second last toe. It itched and ached and throbbed but there was no pain after I put it under cold water. A few hours later I put ice on it for about 20 minutes but it is still swollen. It doesn't hurt, but it feels a bit numb and it looks weird and it is swollen. I can still walk but its really strange. please help.

    • ANSWER:
      Look up the acronym RICE-HA.

Fourth toe on left foot still numb, swollen, and has a bunion. Podiatrist time?
I had hammertoe surgery on my fourth toe on my left foot earlier last year(not this year. Sorry.) and it's still numb and swollen because my podiatrist accidentally cut a nerve during the surgery and now there is a bunion on it. Is it time to go to the podiatrist again? Should I ask my mom if she could take me to the podiatrist before school starts? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:

      Ermmm...they cut a nerve?

Not much you can really do there unfortunately. Nerves grow at a really really slow rate, damaged nerves can be damaged for good in a lot of cases.

Bunions don't occur on 4th toes, they can not, only 1 and 5.

If it is swollen then I would go back, you sound young and after a year it should have made some progress.

Unfortunately no pictures so can not really assess what is going on.

      Good luck

Swollen and numb toes after dancing?
    hi everyone.
so here's the thing. I went dancing in high heels yesterday night and i most likely overdid it and ignored the pain my feet were in even though they have formed blistered already. I just kept dancing and after a while i couldnt feel anything anymore.
i thought the numbness and swelling would go away after the night, but it didnt.
Some toes are swollen and kinda numb and have a strange feeling to them. I can still move them tho and i have no pain.
does anybody have an idea whats wrong? Should i go to a doctor about this?

    • ANSWER:
Your toes are probably ok and just need another day to heal. If you're really concerned, a doctor visit couldn't hurt, though.

Remember to think about what you're going to be doing, when deciding what to wear.

My husband woke up with numb swollen bottom lips and itchiness from head to toe. Can a spider be the cause?

    • ANSWER:
What state do you all in live in? If it was a spider bite make sure it wasn't a brown recluse spider. Their venom affects layers of skin if I remember correctly. Not sure what doctors could do for him if that were the case but I think they could help in some way.
Also does he see any bite marks on or near his lip? That might be a sign it was a spider or not.
      Hope that helps.

    • ANSWER:
I'm not a doctor so I can't say for sure, however don't rule it our being fractured.

A few years ago, I was playing Rugby, and the ball was thrown to me and it hit my thumb, hard. At the time it was fairly painful but I played on.

After the game it was swollen and, like yourself, it only bent so far. I went to the hospital, had an x-ray and they told me I had a hairline fracture. It was a real surprise considering it was only a ball hitting my thumb; its not like someone had thrown a brick at it. They put my thumb in this sort of plaster cast for 6 weeks.

I'm not saying its definitely this, but if the swelling doesn't go down, you should see your doctor. Although they usually cant do a lot for toes :(

Sprained ankle, top of foot swollen and numb... normal?
I sprained my ankle and have tissue damage and a 2nd degree sprain. I have been on crutches for 4 days. My ankle is swollen and badly bruised. I can walk with some pain but it can manage, my walk obviously isnt natural yet. Yesterday the top of my foot to my toes swelled loads and is numb, is this normal?

    • ANSWER:
I would go to the doctor :)

My big toe suddenly became swollen, itchy, and numb. I have no idea why. What could be wrong with it?
My big toe started itching and I assumed I got bit by something, but now it's really swollen and a little numb. There is also no sign of any bug bites. It's been like this for a few hours and is getting worse. It doesn't really hurt that bad, but it's making me walk funny because it's swollen and feels weird. I have no idea what could be wrong with it. It kind of feels like someone tied a string around it at the base and it won't really bend at all. It's scaring me because I don't have insurance and can't go to the doctor. I'm a 23 year old female and nothing like this has ever happened to me before. Does anyone have any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
Take some benadryl....(an antihistamine)...and it should calm down....

My ankle and foot is swollen and my toes are numb after rolling my ankle in volleyball last night?
could it be broken? It kills to try to stand on it or even move it. I can't stand to get out of bed.

    • ANSWER:
it might be broken or just a bad sprain what you might want to do is buy a ankle brass (srry i can't spell) and some crutches (at like Walgreen's) put some ice on the ankle to bring down the swelling keep it elevated and keep off it for a while or best option is go to the doctor hope that helped and hope you feel better

My ankle, foot and toes are numb 2 days following a strong kick to the high ankle, why?
2 days ago while playing soccer I received a very strong kick to the outside of my right ankle/lower leg. Since then it has swelled up, but no visible bruising. I have been keeping it elevated, using ice and compression since the incident. Today my ankle, foot and toes are numb. The swelling isn't even sore to the touch when it probably should be. I'm assuming I hit a nerve or a nerve is being pressed on by the swelling but has anyone else had a similar injury?

    • ANSWER:
I would also guess that a nerve is being compressed by the swelling. If the swelling isn't going down with the usual conventional treatments you have been using it might be a good idea to get it checked.

why do my toes feel numb and swollen when they are not?

    • ANSWER:
It might be noting or it might be neuropathy. That is where your nerves die or degenerate (depending on the cause). It strikes many in the toes because of poor circulation. So the feeling may be caused by nothing, a sign of advancing atherosclerosis, a sign of diabetes or even a sign of MS.
If it continues get yourself checked out. There are a lot of things that this precursor can be and a lot of things that you can nip in the bud by getting treatment.

My middle little toe is numb and has been for the past week and a half. I can move it, its not swollen?
or bruised. I'm not sure what to do.its definitely not broken, it almost feels dislocated. Should I see a doctor?? Help please!

    • ANSWER:
I would wait a few days and see how it feels.

my toes have been numb for a week?
The three middle toes on my right foot have been numb for the past week.
No injury nothing, just woke up feeling like that.
    What could cause this?

Also, there's no color change and they aren't swollen. If they were i'd of gone to the doctor by now :)

    • ANSWER:

Any ideas on why my left big toe is numb?
For the past two days, my left big toe has been numb. It doesn't hurt. Its not swollen. It is not turning colors. I don't think it has to do with shoe size because the numbness occurs when I'm wearing shoes or even when I'm lying in bed at night. I don't have any of the other symptoms of diabetes.
Right now, it feels like my toe is asleep. I can still feel pressure if I press on it. Any ideas?
Is this something serious enough to bother my doctor with? I don't have a lot of money and a large deductible.

    • ANSWER:
You should see a doctor. It sounds like you have poor circulation in your toe. This may be an early symptom of some kind of vascular problem.

What can I do for a numb toe?
I had surgery on my fourth toe of my left foot for hammertoe surgery Feb. 7 and it's numb on one part and still swollen a bit. I'm thinking my podiatrist accidentally cut a nerve while operating on my toe. What do I do? I'm 15- years- old and had the hammertoe surgery when I was 14. It is still numb on the top side and swollen a bit. Please help? Thank y'all!

    • ANSWER:
I don't know what to tell you to be quite honest. If your doctor really did mess with a nerve, I can't guarantee that you'll ever get full feeling in your toe again. I'm sorry you had to go through that surgery.

Good luck. Once again, I really am sorry you were forced to put up with this.

I had "sprain" my ankle 8 weeks ago. (Yeah its still no better)
But the main problem is my toes are ultra swollen.
I went to urgent care for the sprain 6 weeks ago, they took the xray and said there was no break. I think i fractured it but idk. Why are my toes swollen, numb, and cold? I ankle is swelled too.

    • ANSWER:
just try to rest for a day or two not walking on it at all! put ice on it for 20 mins then soak it in hot water for 20 mins then rest it for 20 mins and so on. if not go to a different doctor and see what they have to say.

Should I go to the hospital or is it normal feeling when having a sprain ankle? Never had one so not sure.

My toe was "numb and cold" and now it is red and swollen. What is it?!?
It does this off and on. It was kind of numb and cold the last few days...and now it is big and red and swollen. Is it broken? Is it poor ONE TOE?!
I thank you for the answer on Chilblains. I thought that might be it, as I researched and read descriptions, but there are no little 'blisters' or 'red spots'...the whole toe is red and swollen. but I am still thinking the poor circulation and the cold weather has something to do with it!

my feet are so swollen my toes are numb!!?
It started Friday, my feet look like monster feet. Even if im just sitting in a chair they'll become triple their normal size and the majority of the day i can't feel my toes. I'm 36 weeks, so if it was preeclamsia wouldnt it have been happening? Even when i wake up in the morning their huge! has anyone experienced this? I havent been on my feet for long periods of time. I stay at home. Even laying on the couch for hours with them propped up doesnt seem to help

    • ANSWER:
Call the doctor. I had this, and I ended up with pre-eclampsia. Have you had high blood pressure or protein in your urine? Those are the main warning signs of pre-eclampsia. Drink LOTS of water, avoid any processed food or canned soup, because the salt will drive up your blood pressure. Also, stay out of the heat and lay on your left side as much as you can with your legs elevated.

Should I see a physical therapist?
I have an inflexible knee and a numb, swollen toe. I can't do the splits with my left leg because all the muscles in my left knee pull and it hurts. My fourth toe of my left foot is numb and swollen from hammertoe surgery I had on it last year because my podiatrist accidentally cut a nerve. Should I see a physical therapist for those. School starts for me tomorrow! Help!!! I'm only 15!!! Please help! I'm not faking or making it up!

    • ANSWER:
      I would see a therapist

I got a deep cut on the bottom of my foot and now one toe is numb. Nerve injury?
I stepped on a sharp rock and got a deep cut in the bottom of my foot near the toes. It required stiches. Now the left, bottom half of my second smallest toe is numb. Did I cut a nerve? It is just the swelling? Just curious.
The cut is right above the ball of my foot between the middle and pinky toes. It was deep enought to require stiches.

    • ANSWER:
It could be either one. A deep cut would have an increased chance of damaging the nerve. I would know better if I knew where on the foot you were cut, which toe and where on the toe is it numb. Let me know an I will see if I can get you a better answer.

...ok. well based on your new information it sounds like if you did get a nerve it would be one of the common digital nerves. If the cut was off the ball of you foot closer to the toes then you would get a nerve that innervates just on half of the toe. If the cut was more on the ball of the foot then, if it was damaged, you would have gotten it before it branches in to two nerves and both sides of the toe would be effected. now even if you did damage the nerve but not completely sever it, you may still have a chance for nerve regeneration.

It will be interesting to find out....

      good luck!

Second toe gone numb after wearing (low) heels to a party?
I went to a party last night in low mary-jane heels, and I had a dressing on my big toe due to cutting it open. The dressing rubbed on the inside of my second toe and this morning it is slightly swollen. It started feeling tingly and burning but now it keeps going numb. What's happening?

    • ANSWER:
its probs just brusied or somthing. load that baby up with some neosporn. if not that then maybe take a warm bath. it will sting for a little but its for the better. if it still hurts in a few days then go to a doctor.

I got stung by a bee on my toe 5 days ago. My toe is now numb on the top.?
My toe was swollen and red for 3 days. That is now gone, but my toe feels numb on the very top.......I got bit around the middle, on the side. It feels very strange when I walk. What could be going on?

    • ANSWER:
The sting from the bee could have done some damage to the nerve in your toe (an example only).

The only way to know for sure is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they say.

please help. i think i broke my toe?
i am waiting to get into the doctor's office pretty soon. my toe is swollen, goes numb and has deep pain and bruised feel to it and i cannot walk on it. i stepped on it the wrong way to catch my fall and it is only feeling worse by the minute. any clue if these are signs of a broken toe or just a sprain? any info would be comforting. thanks

    • ANSWER:
If you did break your toe, there isn't much to do in regards to healing. You won't get a cast or splint, x-rays are a waste of time and money. Most good doctors won't put you through the process, unless they want a little extra cash in thier pockets. The best form of treatment includes, rest, ice, elevation and buddy tape. The rest, ice and elevating your foot helps with the pain and swelling. Buddy tape is using regular tape and taping the injured toe to the one next to it. Its a form of splinting. Advil or tylenol are good for minor pain relief, but you may need something stronger like vicodin to help get through the stronger pains. Hope this helps.

Why is the toe next to my big toe numb? 2 weeks!!?
The toe next to my big toe is numb. Its been this way for almost 2 weeks now. I have no idea why it is. All the rest of my toes are fine and it isnt a different color or swollen either. There isnt any pain, it just feels like the one toe has fallen asleep or something. Any ideas of what it is?

    • ANSWER:
you must of bumped it and didn't realize it. but if it keeps up, it wouldn't hurt to go and see doctor. when you do something like this it does take a long time to heal, because it is constantly being used by walking.

strange numb swelling on my leg?
i dropped a large sheet of metal. it bounced off my shin and broke my toe. the swelling on my shin went down but now it is a strange squishy bump that the skin is peeling off of. it is also numb when i push on it. is this cellulitis or something else i should be concerned about.

    • ANSWER:
You could definitely develop cellulitis from this sort of injury, but this sounds more like some nerves have been damaged. Are you seeing a doctor about this? If not, I'd suggest you do.

Blister popped on my toe its: painful, skin around it is red, swollen foot, is this normal?

1] Might be an infection - see your docotor or nurse practitioner.
2] this is why blisters should never be 'popped'- they are like burns, and easily infected.
3] future burn blisters - protect with bandage 'til all fluid re-absorbed

I went to a clinic, and the doctor spent a good deal of time with me, asking questions and poking at it, but he couldn't come up with anything. (It wasn't in pain yet when I saw him, just numb)

You should be fine soon.I pulled some tendons that way.Just don't over do or over think it. You will be o.k. Listen to Mom :)

Why is my foot STILL swollen and numb?
Roughly two months ago my feet swelled after a plane ride. I fly regularly and this is the first time this has happened to me. Within a day the right foot returned to normal, but the left still looked swollen when I looked down on it, especially between the 3rd and 4th toe (from L to R). Under my foot, the respective pad is severely swollen. When I walk, I feel as if was walking on a makeup application pad (that is the best descriptor I can think of). The toe closest to my big toe has almost no feeling, and the swollen pad has almost not feeling either. When I wake up and walk for the first time I have sever pain, during the day I feel minimal pain but still as if there was extra padding, and at the end of the day the pain is so sever I cannot walk. I am of a healthy weight, I get regular exercise and I have been a dancer for years (I do not do point). I cannot recall any particular injury that could have caused this but it has been persistent (daily) since the initial swelling on the plane. Anyone ever have anything similar?

    • ANSWER:

My toe is numb and a little bit funky?
I went out last night in a new pair of heels and did a lot of walking and such in them. Then, I walked home barefoot (about a mile in the cold, probably not the wisest decision, but my feet were killing me...) Now one of my toes is numb and I can't really feel it. I have ruled out frostbite because it is at the same temperature as the rest of my body, I think I might have broken it, but it's not swollen and it doesn't hurt. Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
Some of the possible causes of numbness include:

Sitting or standing in a position for prolonged time
Injury to a certain nerve can cause numbness in the body part of that nerve, or other parts connected with that nerve channel
Shingles (herpes zoster) infection is another reason which can lead to numbness
Pressure on the spinal nerves in condition like slip disk
Pressure on the peripheral nerve which forms due to enlarged blood vessels, infection or tumors
No blood supply to a certain body area, can also cause body numbness in the certain body part
Body numbness at night or during sleep sensation gets worse in people having the peripheral neuropathy condition
Medical condition of carpel tunnel syndrome where a person gets a pressure on a nerve at the wrist, is a common experienced condition of body numbness during pregnancy
Other medical condition like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, under active thyroid also lead to body numbness and tingling
Lack of vitamin B12 in body is also another cause of body numbness
Certain medications or radiation therapy can also lead to body numbness
Experiencing right side or left side of body numbness can be a stroke symptom
Nerve damage due to consumption of lead, tobacco or alcohol can also lead to body numbness and tingling sensation

Injury to my ankle has left 3 of my toes numb?
I tore the ligaments in my ankle a little over 2 weeks ago. I am going to physio to get the strength back in it.

Over the last week or so, 3 of my toes on that foot keep going numb and hurting. The joint where the toe joins the foot is sore and they are swollen.

I am going to talk to my doctor on monday, but I was just wondering if anyone has had the same experience. and if you have, what did it turn out to be.

    Thanks in advance.

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like you have problems with your toes
were it joins the foot. You may have a fracture
there. Tell your Dr. about it and get him/her to

    • ANSWER:
There are plenty of possibilities why, but first of all, I would recommend you try stretching those toes to make sure it's moving okay and there' s no pain when you do that.

How about giving your foot a massage or a foot soak?
My guess is either it was stubbed on something or you lost circulation there for too long.

My left big toe is somewhat numb on the top and when i run my entire foot feels weird. What should i do?
I have narrow feet and sometimes i will pinch a nerve on the top of my foot and it will make it go numb. However, right now my left big toe seems swollen on the top only and doesn't have much sensation when i touch it. I have also noticed when i run, my entire foot begins to feel weird. It is hard to describe but it almost feels like it is becoming heavier or something. It doesn't go numb but it doesn't feel normal. I have been wearing the same shoes for almost a year now and usually I wear flip flops so I don't think it is a problem with my shoe. But what could it be and what should i do??

Why does one of my toes get numb from cold weather way before the rest of my toes? It also feels bruised?
Two days ago I had a really itchy toe but it went away in a few hours. Yesterday while walking in the city for about an hour I thought something was in my sock and realized my toe! It was completely numb and felt swollen when I wasn't looking at it (when I took my sock off I realized it wasn't). When I got inside I tried to warm it up and when it was completely warm I could feel it again but it felt like it was bruised. It is not quite cold enough for my toes to become numb as far as I is definetly cold but I've dealt with much much colder

Same thing happened today....two pairs of socks weren''t enough to keep my feet warm and I had a numb toe all day at work.

I would actually worry about diabetes since I'm also having an eye problem but I had a thourough blood test this month and apparently I'm fine.

    So what could it be?
    A bug bite?
    A bruise?
    Athletes foot?

Does a bruised toe or a bitten toe or infected toe freeze quicker than a normal toe? Does frostbite last for a few days?

Also, what can I do at work (since doubling up on socks doesn't work)?
Oh, no discoloration....and I can't tell, it may or may not be a little swollen but its not obvious

Why would a persons feet and toes become numb and it's not diabetes?
Over the past year or two I have gradually realized that my feet, along with being somewhat swollen, have become partially numb. I just went to a neurologist where he did an NCR(nerve conduction response) test which, by the way, shocked the crap out of me and all he would tell me was that I had peripheral nerve damage and would send the full report to my regular doctor who I haven't heard from. Does anyone have a similar story and can enlighten me about a possible answer?

    • ANSWER:
I have given you a link so you can read about peripheral nerve damage

    Swollen toe/numbness...what is it?
For probably about 2-3 months now I have noticed some changes in my right foot.

it started as pain and was somewhat red and swollen. I mentioned it to dr but he never really thought much of it I guess and said not to worry about it.

Lately it has been feeling really numb though and still's starting to worry me.

Any idea what it could be?
