Swollen Painful Tongue Bumps

Hypnosis and Communication Skills Development

Using hypnosis to develop your personality is something that has come into use of late. There are many of us who feel tongue tied at an interview for a job. Others may have serious problems to socialize with people and make new friends.

And there may be many more such other situations where people face trouble in interacting with others or showing a good body language and speaking skills. While practice can get these problems out of your system and make you an expert on these issues, there is hypnosis to consider as well.

The Role of Hypnosis

A big reason for people not being able to speak or interact with the others effectively can be due to lack of confidence in oneself. Now the only way one can improve their confidence level is by believing that they can achieve what they think they will not be possible to do.

One way to go for it is facing the problems or the situations and then checking out the results. The more you meet people and interact with them, the better will be the chances of understanding that you can actually be involved with others socially, and people do consider you with importance and respect.

However this is not always as easy as it may sound. This is where hypnosis comes in. Hypnosis can be a great way to enhance your confidence levels and self respect. Through hypnosis you can make your subconscious self believe and understand that you are a great speaker and a great company for the others around you.

How Hypnosis Works

As I have already pointed out, a lot depends on what your mind believes about you. Now if you can make your mind believe that you can achieve something, you will probably be able to achieve it. This can be better speaking skills, a better personality, more friends, meeting your career goals, and so on.

Now it is important to understand that you need to make your mind BELIEVE that you CAN do it, and not THINK that you MAY be able to do it. Your statement should be aI will do ita and not aI will trya. Now this can only be achieved through utilizing the powers of your subconscious mind.

Hypnosis, like meditation, is a great way to interact with your subconscious mind. Through hypnotherapy you can actually program your mind to believe that you are a great speaker, and you have ten times better communication skills than you actually had. The more effective the hypnotherapy is, the better will be the results for you to see.

Hypnotherapy is no myth. Millions of people have experienced the role of hypnosis in their success stories, and you can be the next in the line too!

Swollen Painful Tongue Ear Pain

TMJ Ears

The mother of two sat in the dentists' room, "I experience ear and jaw pain, it hurts to eat and my teeth are grinding at night." The dentist nodded and proceeded to probe her teeth and jaw. He peered within the top of his glasses and said, "Looks like you undergo TMJ, it is a common problem and fortunately there is a simple solution. TMJ jaw exercises." This is a common scene throughout America and the rest of the world. TMJ Ears

As much of 30% of the population has been afflicted by symptoms of TMJ at some point in their lives, but most of these people never treat the condition properly. Unlike our very clever dentist in the prior example, most dentists will recommend purchasing an expensive mouth guard or mouth splint. These devices are just band-aid solutions to a problem which will continue to get worse unless something permanent is done to stop it. Mouth guards are reported to be very annoying to sleep with, ineffective a lot of the time and can even cause future jaw problems. TMJ Ears

How Do The Exercises Work? Unlike mouth guards, jaw exercises actually treat the root cause of ear and jaw pain. By massaging, stretching and strengthening certain muscles in your body, you can release pressure and tightness in your jaw and in turn your ear. The exercises will do this and will realign your jaw, which will stop any pain, clicking and other symptoms. TMJ Ears

Exercises for your jaw will take about 10 - 15 minutes to complete each day and should be done over a 2 - 3 week period to achieve best results. Although you will get pain relief in the first few days, it will take longer to be completely pain free. Stop suffering from TMJ anymore. Get your TMJ Ears ebook and live your life again!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    Scaffholding on ear... Swollen! Normal?
Right, I had some scaffholding put through my ear wednesday. Its the standard 1.6mm diamter bar I think. Anyway, it is really pretty sore and inflamed at the moment. Very tender too.

Is this normal? I had a small stud put it in top of my other ear, and it never swole or caused any discomfort. I know the gauge on the small stud is hardly anything, which I'm guessing could the the difference?

I have a very stange top part of my ear. It is pretty much sealed, and not in the normal shape. The piercer had some trouble putting it through, and it was immensely painful compared to tongue/snakebites/other ear....

It's currently throbbing. Nurophen takes the pain away, but I still look like i have a massive red colliflowered ear. Any advice?

im 15 and i got my industrial done for my birthday and it didn't hurt at first but the swelling and sleeping on it hurt for about a week or two. i want to get my tongue pierced. im pretty good with handling pain i have my ears pierced three times on the bottoms of each ear, once on the top of one ear and industrial on the other i also have my nose and belly button pierced...im pretty good at handling pain. so i was just wondering which hurts more industrial or tongue? if anyone can help please do.

    • ANSWER:
industrial definitely.. its all cartilage and takes forever to heal.. and its so sore and painful yikes. your tongue heals very quickly, and only hurts for a second. oral piercings are easy. once its heals just make sure you get plastic balls, the metal ones can chip your teeth.

  5. QUESTION:
In a lot of pain---need help fast! Symptoms: eyes hurt(especially to move), sore throat and swollen lymph node
, PAINFUL white sore on my tongue, looks like a picture of an ulcer i found on google., diarreah, and feels like i have an ear infection in one ear. Ive given oral, but i really dont think its an std but im still getting checked on monday. But is there anything else it could be?

    • ANSWER:
The symptoms you describe sound like an upper respiratory infection. It could be the start of the flu.
Take some tylenol for the eyepain and sore throat.
      Keep your diet bland.

Often when we have an infection in our body (viral or bacterial) our resistence is low and we may get yet ANOTHER infection on top. Your tongue problem sounds like it could be an ulcer or cold sore.

      Get plenty of rest.

  6. QUESTION:
Swollen neck/glands, and difficulty in swallowing?
I apologise for all these curiosity questions, but never have something as bad as this occur to me before.

Anyways, I was checking my throat out to see if anything had changed and the same with my neck. I have noticed my throat is still red, and I still have red dots on the roof of my mouth and on/above my uvula. However, I have them on the inside of my cheeks too.. Next to my uvula (the dangle bit in the throat) it is inflamed and a deep red/purple colour, with strips of white patches next to them.

I checked over my neck and tongue too, and have definitely noticed that underneath my tongue I cannot touch as it's so painful. My actual tongue underneath, I'm thinking the salivary glands are swollen? The blue coloured vessels are definitely larger and painful, as is the area where the tongue lies in. Anyways, my neck is still swollen, and I checked the lymph nodes? And when pressed on they were hard and too extremely tender? And I am having a lot of pain in them. I've also noticed, at the type of my neck where it's swollen there's a hard lump there?

I'm also getting headaches, nausea, and ear pain alongside all this. I'm shaking badly, and have chills, my head is pretty hot to the touch. My swallowing is becoming hesitant and having to gulp a few times before I swallow anything, it's difficult and hurts when swallowing. I don't understand why my neck, underneath my tongue and under my chin are swollen.

My problem is, I have an important qualification where I have to go camping overnight, walking for miles.. basically a survival test. But I don't think I can handle much with this. Last night was horrendous, and my breathing changed and became shallow. I've been told about strep, but why are my lymph nodes tender and my salivary glands swollen? Is it worth missing out this qualification, to get this treated?

    Thanks!
I've also noticed, at the TOP** of my neck...
Forgot, any movement that involves my mouth I have really bad pain because of the swelling...

    • ANSWER:
You have tight neck muscles causing these problems. Tight neck muscles press into your throat to make it sore and press in with enough pressure to trap your tongue muscle to make it hard to swallow and for the saliva glands to work. They would not be allowing the blood out of your tongue to make it swollen. The glands you felt under you neck are probably neck muscles because the neck muscles go to the jaw as well. Your neck muscles go to the top of your head where they connect to muscles going around your head. When the neck muscles are tight they pull the head muscles into pain and that's your headache. Freeing up your neck muscles will give you relief for these pains and here's how to free them up:
      Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your neck. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. After about 30 to 45 seconds, when you don’t feel the muscles releasing any longer, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

  7. QUESTION:
Deep itchy throat and ears, quite painful?
the past few mornings I have been waking up with a little cough. Whenever I do cough or sneeze, my throat hurts and feels very itchy but then the pain moves up to my ears which is even worse. Its extremly, painfully itchy and lasts about 2-3 minutes.

The other day one side of my neck was hurting, it actually felt like my lymph nodes were swollen. My tongue was also swollen for 2 days. I dont have any food allergies and I usually have seasonal allergies in the spring.

Any idea of what it might be? Allergies which I've never had this time of year? Any remedies?

Ive been drinking soda after I cought because the bubbles feel good on my throat. Thanks!!

  8. QUESTION:
sore lymph nodes, pain under cheek bone?
Okay so for the past 3 days, when I wake up in the morning, the right side of my face under my cheek bone all the way to my ear is extremely stiff and sore, to the point where it's hard to open my mouth all of the way. It's hard to tell what part exactly on my face it is.. the pain goes away for the most part after a few hours. Also, 2 days ago, the area under my jaw has been really sore to the touch. My throat isn't sore at all. I think it's my lymph nodes. They aren't swollen just really really sore all day. Lastly, I have about 3 white swollen taste buds on my tongue that are really painful.. Any ideas?!?! I'm going to assume it's just a harmless virus/cold, but I've just never had these symptoms before. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Lol you must've done a hell of a job for your bf, he must be proud of you ;)

But yah it's most likely a cold or something. My cheekbone hurt a little when i had the sinus flu...go see a doctor and get some antibiotics.

  9. QUESTION:
    Tongue Piercing Please Read?
First of all, I don't care about your opinions. What you think of a tongue piercing is meaningless to me. I just want some information.

I have a few piercings now. I have a nose piercing on my right nostril, and an industrial cartilage piercing on the right ear. I also have my earlobes pierced.

Pain isn't much of a factor to me. Sure, I know that I will be in pain when I am first pierced, and perhaps a while afterwards too. I expect that much.

But I want to know, what are the risks?

Obviously, there are risks of infection. I know that. Also, the thing about my teeth. I've heard it can rub enamel off of your teeth and/or chip your teeth. I know this. So I know not to play with my piercing, or carelessly bump the barbell against my teeth.

I also know to brush my teeth often, and thoroughly. I also plan to use mouthwash. Should I use a diluted, alcohol-free mouthwash, or with the alcohol? And besides rinsing with mouthwash, rinsing with salt water, and brushing my teeth carefully and often, what else should I do to clean it?

And just how painful is it, on a scale of one to ten? I doubt I'll cry, because none of my piercings made me cry, mostly I just said ow a few times :D . I also know about pain tolerance. Well....to me, my industrial felt like someone running a cigarette lighter's flame across my cartilage over and over for the first few hours after having it pierced. However, depending on pain type, my tolerance can be fairly high.

Well, what should I expect? And how long before I can change it to a different barbell?

Also, if I do get it done, it has to be hidden...so how do I do this? When my tongue swells, how do I talk normally? If I can't talk normally, what should I blame my irregular speech on?

Thanks in advance. I appreciate any tips and advice!! :)

    • ANSWER:
Its great that you've done your research (: hahhaa, you've pretty much covered everything.

I got mine done a few weeks ago and my parents still dont know about it ... (that and all the other piercings hahaha). For me it was about a 4/10 for pain, didn't really hurt that much, hurt more than my belly which was 3/10 but it was bearable. I dont know about industrial but i have a normal cartilage piercing and that was about a 6/10 for me so yeah, you shouldnt be worried hahaha.

What to expect? .. well when you get it done, the piercer do basically what they do for any piercing.. clean the area, mark the hole .. etc. It feels like a long pinch, nothing much, depends on how fast the piercer does it. My piercing was over in less than a minute whereas other piercers take longer. You can change it after 2 or 3 weeks.. you should ask your piercer as everyone has different opinions, if you cant wait that long, there are also separate balls you can buy which are either clear or flesh coloured so its harder to see when your talking.

I was going paranoid when i got mine done incase i couldnt hide it from my parents who are absolute freaks when it comes to piercings. I got away with my belly so why not. hahhaha. For me, i got mine done a day before i went to a week long camp so by the time i came back, the swelling went down completley (: ... on the day, i got it done in the morning and i was out with my friends until late at night. I was literally drowning my tongue in ice creams and slurpee's until the swelling eventually went down and by the time i got home, i said i was tired and just went straight to bed to avoid talking to my parents hahaha. it swelled back up again over night though but i left for camp early in the morning so my parents had no idea (:

..since you probably wont be as lucky and have an excuse like camp hahaha.. i suggest you have a huge supply of ice cream in your freezer for the week haha. avoid whoever you're hiding the piercing from as much as possible. If its someone you cant really avoid like your parents, what i did was unscrew and remove the top ball of the barbell. It can be quite risky as the barbell can fall out completely but i only had the ball off for a few minutes so my parents didn't see. Also, you can cover the jewlery with food, haha, i always had chewing gum, lollies, etc. on top of mine so it wasnt visable.

As for talking, you will talk funny for a while, i had a lisp for almost 2 wks hahha.. to avoid talking weird, try holding your tongue back, it sounds weird but it works. Also, if you talk, you can stuff your mouth with food first.. hahah, i did that too, so when i talked, it was naturally weird because my mouth was full .. hahah

      hope this helped (:
      good luck
      xx

  10. QUESTION:
What is wrong with me? Horrible burning in ear and lower throat.?
I am miserable. I've been sick for almost 12 days now. I've had a low grade fever on and off the entire time but thought it was gone until tonight. It came back again.

For the past four days, I have had a horrible burning in my right ear all the way down to my lower throat (base of the neck). This feeling is worse when I take a breath.

I saw my doc three days ago. I told him about my throat and ear burning but I didn't tell him where it was hurting. He said my eardrum is not moving much but he didn't see enough infection to give me an antibiotic. I am miserable! It feels like I am being burned with a cigarette!

My other symptoms include very painful ulcer on tongue which I usually get when I get a cold just not this bad. Upset stomach. Swollen lymph nodes . . . all on the same side as the pain. I also had a white bump on that side of my throat - but strep was negative. Headaches, fatigue and general flu-y feeling too.

I'm worried. Is this normal after a long sickness? Does anybody have any ideas what this could be? I'm getting scared!

    • ANSWER:
I was sick for about three weeks with almost the same exact symptoms that you have. Is it your tonsils that have white patches on them? Mine did. They tested me for strep and mono and they came back negative. I ended up having a nasty sinus infection and some other virus that they actually didn't explain very well to me. To this day I'm still not very sure what I had.
Are you clearing your throat a lot? If so, the burning in your throat might be due to post-nasal drip. It's nasty but basically it's just all the mucus going down the back of your throat. Sniffling, blowing your nose and coughing a lot irritates your ears also.

I felt like I got hit by a truck but it wasn't anything that antibiotics couldn't cure. It just took a little while.
Maybe get a second opinion? Go to a convenient care or someplace where you can just walk in and get checked out.

  11. QUESTION:
    Advice on tongue piercing please?
    hey there :)
    i am 15.
i have been wanting my tongue pierced since i was 13.
k well i have some questions and concerns.
i am not worried about the pain, i currently have 6gs, 2nds, and 3rds ear piercings, and an industrial.
I also have my nose and belly button.
I used to have my hip and two other belly button piercings.
so pain is not a concern.
swelling, is also not a concern, i am aware that you have to have the long bar in because of the painful swelling and it lasts depending on your body.
    k now some questions.
    1. if you have it pierced for a long period of time, will it naturally stretch?
    2. does it really cause bad breath? (even if you brush your teeth and stuff)
    3. iv heard rumors that it can cause brain abscesses?? that's a scary thought.

thanks for taking the time to read and answer this.
btw I DON'T WANT YOUR ANSWER IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT DONE YOURSELF.
i also don't wanna hear "YOUR TOO YOUNG" or "IT'S SLUTTY/TRASHY"
cuz i have heard all that before lol.

    THANKS :)

    • ANSWER:
YOUR NOT TOO YOUNG. I got mine when I was 16 cause I thought it was cute.

1.I'm not really sure what you mean by naturally stretching? The pierced hole will always stay the same size unless you stretch it with a bigger gauge.

2.No it doesn't cause bad breath. Just brush your teeth and tongue.

3.Absolutely not. Just rumors. No worries.

Good luck and take good care of your piercing!

  12. QUESTION:
lump under jaw, swollen lymph nodes ,fatigue..What are yhe possible causes?
I am a 44 year old female.I have had swollen lymph nodes for a long time.I have had a lump under my jaw for about a year, recently it has become harder and tender and painful especially trying to eat.I also have ear pain ,weakness and night sweats.I have had a fatty lump over my clavicle for about 2 years.I also have a small lump under my tongue.I have bad teeth but no toothaches.I saw a nurse practioner the other day she felt my lumps and said all my lymph nodes were swollen probably due to coughing and my lump under my jaw was my tonsils. She didnt look in my ears or nose but she said I had a sinus infection ear and lung infection and wrote me a script for augmenton. She didnt do any blood work either so Im wondering if she knew what she was talking about. I am very weak.I would aprriciate anyones views answers or ideas..Thanks...Pattymac

    • ANSWER:
if youre having constant infections the lymph glands stay swollen long after the infection is cleared. if the doctor didnt feel to biopsy the lumps...he/she is probably taking the least invasive route first (antibiotics) follow up with your doctor as suggested.

  13. QUESTION:
Really sore jaw pain..is this normal?
I had a tooth pulled on monday (right bottom molar second from the back)...this tooth was root canalled a week prior (and failed) causing me unbelievable pain so I opted to just have the damn tooth pulled out at the oral surgeon.

The tooth came out in one piece, but the root broke into two, the whole procedure took 40 minutes tops. Once the freezing came out I noticed jaw pain, its gotten "slightly" better since, but its still pretty painful. it feels like bruising along the bottom of the jaw line all the way up to my ear almost, up in my cheek

If I put my tongue in the whole where the tooth was, there is no pain, even eating noodles that by accidentally wonder that way, no pain, the socket itself looks a little watery but no blood

Is this all normal? The pain is pretty intense, im not going to lie, not nearly as bad as prior to getting the extraction, but rather a different type of pain (almost like getting punched in the face- feels swollen)

I can open my mouth fairly wide with little discomfort

    • ANSWER:
All of the other answers are sound, but I have a hunch you might be suffering from "dry socket" (alveolar osteitis), which occurs when the blood clot forming after the removal of a tooth is dislodged before its time. That's why the dentist or assistant is supposed to tell you to keep the gauze in place for a certain period of time. Dry socket can cause the exact kind of pain you've described or worse. You SHOULD have it checked out before it gets worse.

  14. QUESTION:
How can I get rid of, prevent, or at least numb the pain of my recurring mouth ulcers?
Hi all, please read all the following before answering this question, there's quite a lot of back story to this.

For around a year I have been suffering from persistent mouth ulcers, normally from 1-6 at a time, up to around 0.5cm in diameter (one was around 1cm, but this was initially caused by being kicked in the face and biting into my own lip), and each ulcer lasting 1-3 weeks. The ulcers have so far occurred on my lip, outer gums, inner gums, underside/sides/tip of my tongue, roof of my mouth, very near to my tonsils and on my throat (and on all the other little fleshy bits of my mouth which I don’t know how to classify!)

I'm a 23 year old male, vegetarian, non-smoker (for just over a year), I drink, don't take class A drugs and I eat fairly healthily.

I would just like to point out that these are very different to the ulcers that I have got occasionally and infrequently throughout my life (the little ones that almost feel good when you poke them with your tongue – I’m sure everyone must have these). These are very painful, they throb and the pain seems to spread to other areas of my mouth and face.

These ulcers started a month or so after giving up smoking, and at first (after a bit of internet research) I suspected this was the what had triggered them but as the symptoms didn't go away after a couple of months I started to doubt this as the cause.

I have visited my GP 3 or 4 times (normally, by chance, when I have a fairly mild outbreak rather than a severe one), he Googled it and diagnosed them as minor aphthous ulcers and prescribed me first hydrocortisone pellets (difficult to apply and ineffective) and hydrocortisone (also had no discernible effect).

I have also tried various over the counter medications, including Bonjella (and similar products, I think one was called igel), a spray that is supposed to protect the damaged area and Oraldine medicated mouthwash.

I had a full blood count which has come back negative for anemia (apparently my iron levels are fine). Despite this I have started eating lots of iron rich foods (broccoli, kale, spinach, legumes etc.) to see if this has an impact – so far, it has not.

I have cut down on my drinking (and given entirely up for a fortnight, with no impact on the ulcers), started eating bran-flakes & ensuring that I have 5 portions of fruit and veg a day and started taking Omega and Multivitamin supplements (around two months ago). I have also, in this time frame, started using a sensitive toothpaste free of Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, and started using Listerine mouthwash every day.

I thought for a while that these measures were working, as I went for a couple of weeks with only one ‘hanger-on’ ulcer that was not particularly severe, but I have since had another severe outbreak which is causing me agony and preventing me from eating properly (the fruit and much other food simply hurts too much to swallow).

At the moment I have an ulcer on the rear roof of my mouth, near the tonsils, and the pain jolts up through one side of my face right up to my ear. I sooth it with mouthwash or TCP and have been taking ibroprufen (anti-inflammatorys) which help with the pain, but it shows no sign of relenting.

In the last couple of month I have also had bowel issues, which linked with my ulcers prompted me to stop eating wheat for fear of a gluten intolerance (proved unfounded, symptoms persisted after a week gluten free), and I have swelling and dry skin on my upper right eyelid and my lower left eyelid which has been around for ages, and which only settles down with application of hydrocortisone cream. I also seem to get infections very easily – for example if I get a cut, or bite the skin on my fingers (I’m a nail-biter, unfortunately) it invariably gets infected and swollen.

The Doctor has shown no interest in diagnosing my symptoms, and I have no idea what I can try next to attempt to stop this persistent pain which is having a severe impact on my life and increasingly leading me to depression and lethargy. It’s the kind of thing that is tolerable for a week or two, but after a year is utterly exhausting.

I am ideally looking for someone to give me an idea of what I can try next in terms of preventing the ulcers (or curing the current ones), but if not then any tips of how to reduce the pain would be greatly appreciated – if I can eat, drink and talk without too much pain then it won’t have such a negative impact on my life.

A brief summary of what I have tried this far:

    Bonjello
    Gels & sprays
    Hydrocortisone pellets
    Hydrocortisone mouth rinse
    Oralide medicated mouthwash
    Listerine mouthwash
    Non Sodium Lauryl Sulphate toothpaste
    TCP rinse
    Salt water rinse
    Increased iron in diot
    Multivitamins
    Omega supplements
Increased fruit and veg in diet
    Reduced alcohol consumption
    Gluten free diet

I have had full blood checks that have found nothing wrong.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Fred

  15. QUESTION:
How much did your tongue piercing hurt?
I want to get my tongue pierced, not sure if I'm allowed, but I'm working on that :)
I've only had 2 cartilage piercings on each ear before.
If I don't get my tongue done (or maybe even if I do)
I want to get the top of my ear done,
and from what I've heard, I think I could handle that pain.

I'm a bit of a wimp, I got my 2nd ears done when I was 12 and thought I'd be in tears, but it was fine.

I've heard mixed reports, and I know it swells a lot and is painful after,
but how bad did yours hurt when the actual needle went through?

    I really wanna get one
    :P

    Thanks
    I mean I've had 2 ear piercings
    down the bottom
and I want a cartilage one.
    Sorry.
So is tongue worse than cartilage? Bellybutton?

when i got my tongue pierced i didn't really feel it at all. first he put this clamp on my tongue, which made me drool allot, but after a min or 2 i didn't feel anything. then he told me to close my eyes and take a deep breath....and when i let out that breath he said he was done. i didn't believe him for a minute, but then he took the clamp off and told me to wash out my mouth. that was it. my tongue didn't even swell much. but it was harder to eat for a little while. suck on lots of ice right after you get it done. that helps with the swelling allot. i got my cartilage pierced and in my opinion that hurt allot worse, i couldn't even sleep on that side for a couple of days.

  16. QUESTION:
I tried to make myself throw up, and now I'm in serious pain...?
I drunk salty warm water and put my finger down my throat, now my throat has swollen and hurts so much so that I can't swallow, it's painful like a bruise, I also can't close my mouth because it puts pressure on it. I beginning to get a massive head ache and I can't stop my legs from trembling. I've never thrown up before, and I've only tried to force it two times before but still haven't thrown up. I can feel behind my ears throbbing and my tongue has tensed up.
I want to know if this is normal after trying to throw up, or if I have damaged anything.
Try not to tell me how terrible it is for my health, because I know it is. This has nothing to do with weight or anything like that, but for more personal reasons.
Is it normal for a person to be unable to throw up?

    • ANSWER:
Why are you trying to make yourself vomit, I really think you need to seek help before this gets out of hand. I am in recovery from Bulimia and believe me this is not something you want to become addicted to, before you know it your puring 10 times a day and abusing laxatives (well that is at least what happened to me). Now I am constantly weak, cold and in pain, I get really swollen with edema in my legs feet and abdomen, my voice is wrecked, I used to sing classical. It wrecks your life, do not hurt yourself like this.

About your current problem, you tried what is called a salt water flush, although I am guessing you did not look up how it is done in a healthy way first. You may have put the wrong salt in it, or not enough, so your body can still physically absorb it. You need to get medical help now, this can be extremely dangerous.
Drink some water but not too much.
It is normal to get headaches from straining, but please just get medical help right now, you could have done some bad damage!!!

EDIT: I know you are not doing it for weight control, neither was I at first, I just wanted to punish myslef. But purging is extremely addictive, because you get a lot of endorphins which puts you on a high.

  17. QUESTION:
Why do people feel the need to use drugs like Lexapro? I mean really!? Do people read the side effects first?
I just googled the side effects of taking like Lexapro for example... Look, suicidal thoughts or attempts are in there. Just the other day actually I watched a video of someone who commited suicide from being put on Lexapro. They aren't SIDE effects, they are the actual EFFECTS. and why would anyone want to risk getting so messed up over it? There's even "worsening of depression" in there. sooo what's the point?

"ipation; decreased sexual desire or ability; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; increased sweating; lightheadedness when you stand or sit up; loss of appetite; nausea; stomach upset; tiredness; trouble sleeping.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Lexapro:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bizarre behavior; black or bloody stools; chest pain; confusion; decreased concentration; decreased coordination; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; memory loss; menstrual period changes; new or worsening agitation, panic attacks, aggressiveness, impulsiveness, irritability, hostility, exaggerated feeling of well-being, restlessness, or inability to sit still; persistent or severe ringing in the ears;persistent, painful erection; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe or persistent anxiety or trouble sleeping; severe or persistent headache; stomach pain; suicidal thoughts or attempts; tremor; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual or severe mental or mood changes; unusual weakness; vision changes; worsening of depression."
There's even memory loss, seizures, difficulty breathing, etc... I have asthma and I wouldn't ever risk it getting worse. Sorry to burst your bubble guys but suffocating isn't too fun.

I was just curious if its painful, or more of the piercing being the easy part but swelling worse?
Ive got my navel (belly button) pierced, i could get thru that easily i also have had cartilage pierced and ear lobes blah, blah, blah. • ANSWER:
Mine didn't hurt at all I've had it for just over a week. The first week is the worst. It swelled up a lot. I felt like I had an obese leprechaun residing in my mouth. It was hard to eat for the first few days but then I got better. No I hardly notice it. You'll have to change your eating habits. I got a fork stuck on it on accident. I also got gum stuck on it but that's about it. When it was first pierced it felt weird but didn't hurt. It didn't swell right away either. I love mine. They said it'll heal in about a month.

  21. QUESTION:
Did I catch a STD from my husband?
About 6 weeks ago my husband had a terrible infection on his salivary gland and his face swelled up, his ear swelled up and was even bleeding. And, his tongue turned yellow and brown and black. The doctor said he has a yeast infection on his tongue from taking strong antibiotics. The doctor gave him some medicine but it has not worked to clean his tongue yet.

About a week ago I started to have pain in my mouth and now my tongue is showing the same symptoms. It has turned white and has little red sores. It is painful and I did not take antibiotics.

I'm starting to think my husband caught an STD and he gave it to me. I asked him if he cheated on me and he said no and he claims to be innocent. Did my husband catch a STD and give it to me? What can I have? I have an appointment with the doctor in the morning.
OK, for the ones who are interested in what I have, I will post an update tomorrow after I go to the doctor.

I don't think I kissed him with his tongue like that. We did have sex once. My toothbrush was next to his so I dont know if I can catch it like that. Sometimes we share utensils. He swears he never cheated on me and I do believe him.
Before I asked him if I cheated on him, I told him I just had to ask to be safe and I hope I didn't offend him. I just had to ask. I just don't know if any STD can incubate in the body for a while and come out later.... I don't understand many STD

  22. QUESTION:
    Anyone Know Whats Wrong?
    okay...

3 weeks ago, my throat started hurting, and as the day went on, it got worse and worse. that night i was lying in bed, and i was suddenly hit with an awful fever. i couldnt talk because i was shivering so bad, and i couldnt stand because i was lightheaded, and shaking. the next day, i went to the doctor, and they tested be for strep, but it came back negative. they gave me some antibiotics, and pain pills, and sent me home. the pain meds didnt work, and the antibiotics made me throw up. it was already hard enough to eat, but then i was throwing everything back up. after a week, it got better, but still wasnt gone. it became worse in my sinuses. iv always had sinus problems, but when i get sick, it gets really bad. but i started coughing up giant globs of mucus and blood, and after that, it got even worse. now, my throat is swollen around my nasal passges. when i try to talk, my voice goes in and out, and cracks when i talk loud. when i get to a certain pitch, my voice isnt even there... i am able to blow air out my nose, but it there is something extra in there. almost like im closing my throat, but im not. although i am able to blow air through my nose, i am not able to blow mucus through my nose. i used to have a problem with a runny nose, but now i cant get anything to come out. my nose just burns, and the mucus just runs down the back of my throat uncontrolably, and makes me cough. sometimes when i have a convorsation for an extended amount of time, i start coughing, but i dont feel short of breathe, and i dont get winded when i go for walks. now i am coming to the end of my second week of being sick, and now along with a sore swollen throat, my neck is really stiff and painful, my tongue keeps getting little sores on the back sides of it, my ears are popping with pressure, and the thick slimy mucus running down the back of my throat makes me gag really bad.

if anyone has any possible idea of that any of this means, i would greatly appreciate your help. iv been having tooth aches on my left side, and i dont know if this could be linked to any of this or if its just the icing on the cake.

anyways, thanks for reading, and i hope you can help

    • ANSWER:
I was going to suggest tonsilitis, but that usually goes away within a couple of weeks. In your case I would have your doctor test for mumps, as Ross suggested. Since there is a vaccine readily available for mumps, and most people get this vaccine, instances of mumps are rare in most countries, and is almost never tested for. Good call, Ross. - LJS

  23. QUESTION:
    A Questionable Body Piercer...?
I live in a very small area in Missouri, and likewise I have limited options when it comes to tattoo/piercing studios. Unsatisfied with most places I've been (mostly do to crooked piercings), I decided to try a new shop that opened up in a nearby community. I'd seen her tattoo work prior to going into the shop and was very impressed, but I knew nothing of her piercing skills. However, I know she was a very popular artist in other locations and had nearly two decades of experience, so I decided I would trust her enough to pierce my eyebrow.

Now, I had had my eyebrow done before by a very bad piercer. He actually pierced through a vein, and it never healed. Plus he used nickle jewelry (that he claimed was "titanium"...), but I digress...

The shop was very clean and this lady was exceptionally polite and intelligent. While preparing everything I noticed she coated the jewelry in alcohol, which is something I'd never seen a piercer do before. She gripped me harder with the forceps than I'd ever experienced -- to the point of extreme discomfort and pain. The forceps are always uncomfortable, but this was actually painful (I didn't even think my septum or tongue was painful, but this was). Her reasoning was because she didn't want the skin to shift, so I assumed I was thinking too critical.

It took her about seven minutes to get it done, but the last time I had it done it was over within a minute and I didn't even know it had been pierced. This, however, was a very uncomfortable experience. She kept dotting up the blood with a moist paper towel. I'm not sure if it was alcohol or peroxide, but I kept thinking that she shouldn't be doing it (lol).

After it was over with, I looked in the mirror and the barbell was too small. She said she sat there and watched my eyebrow swell up after she did it, and if the swelling didn't go down to contact her tomorrow and she'd put another one in it for free. She handed me a sheet with steps of "dos and don'ts" on piercing aftercare -- which I thought was awesome in a small area with limited information...until I saw the first step what some of it said:

"1. We recommend that you use peroxide to clean your piercing, 2-3 times a day" -- I thought it was common sense to NOT do this.

"3. Neosporin or A & D ointment is recommeded to help in the healing process. Apply only after you was the piercing thoroughly." -- Won't that smother the piercing? And doesn't it clearly state on these things: "Not for puncture wounds"?

It mentions absolutely nothing of using a sea salt or saline solution, which seems to be commonplace with EVERY parlor I've been to around my area. In fact, I'm often laughed at for mentioning it.

    But back to our focus...

The next day it was still swollen. There was very limited discharge or anything of that nature though. However, I noticed she had pierced me with a straight barbell -- which is something I'd heard was a terrible idea for eyebrow piercings. I decided it was best to have her change it to a ring until the healing is complete. This took around five minutes; I bled.

My friend decided to get another basic ear piercing. This took a while because the ring wouldn't go through, or the needle wouldn't go through (I couldn't see). Eventually it went through, and normally I'd consider this a simple "accident"...but it just seems strange that she had problems with both of us.

I'd appreciate some feedback because I do like this lady and her tattoo work is the best I've seen for my area, but I'd like to know it's correct of me to have a negative perception of her piercing skills and guidelines.

    Thank you.
Actually, now that I think of it, it probably wasn't alcohol on the piercing. The moisture was probably steam from an autoclave.

    • ANSWER:
Whoa! There is a lot of wrong going on there! Your intstincts are correct on a lot of this. I guest spot in Missourri at a good shop and I know in that state you have to have a license. You should call the health department about this. You should only be using an anti-bacterial non-fragrance soap to clean it and do saline (sea salt) soaks on it. Nothing else, petroleum based products can trap and make conditions for bacteria to breed and alcohol, peroxide,etc... are all products made for surface abrasions, not puncture wounds, so all they do is agrivate the wound. A straight barbell should NEVER be used in an eyebrow, this will cause migration. If she doesn't know some of the most basic principles of piercing, it makes me VERY concerned that she is fudging other important cross-contamination issues as well.

  24. QUESTION:
Throat worsened? Worth going to doctors?
My throat is still inflamed, though there are several more red dots appearing on the roof of my mouth and on/above my uvula. Either side of my uvula are red with strips of white, and the back of my throat is now starting to turn red too. My tonsils appear slightly swollen. My tongue now has a yellow coating too?

However, the worst of my problems is my underneath my chin, my neck and underneath my tongue. My neck is swollen slightly, but underneath my chin is worse. It's swollen and rounded, and when pressed to hard hurts badly. Underneath my tongue is also swollen and even moving my tongue or opening/closing my mouth and touching in this area is very painful. It's hurting in this area when I swallow as is the back of my throat. I haven't eaten much nor do I feel like because it's hurting. I found that I'm also having pain in both ears, but my right worse than my left. And the veins on my tongue underneath are also considerably large and swollen?

Last night I was brought to tears because I found I was breathing funny. Even know I'm doing the same. I'm taking short frequent breaths, and If I try even taking deep long breaths, I feel like I can't breathe and panic. I don't understand, since a week today I found my throat being off and hurting when I swallowed, but now these past 2 days it's all gotten worse?

It probably sounds silly how all of this is happening. But my doctors aren't open right now, and I have college next week that I am not allowed to miss. What can I do right now for the pain and such?

    Thank you!
Not to mention all day yesterday in college I was shaking out of coldness, even though everyone was absolutely warm? My forehead is boiling to the touch and I'm shaking with chills?

massively sore throat. not sure whats wrong in lots of pain :( ?
my ears feel blocked i cant hear as well, my nose is runny, it hurts to move my tongue, because my throat is extremely sore. its like fighting a dragon trying to swallow, it hurts so bad it would almost feel better to throw up. pretty sure my throat might be infected, or swolen. anyone know what causes this? or what i might have, or any ways to fix a throat like that because i cant sleep its so painful.

i took some pills yesterday and it said to take with 250ml of water, but i read that after i had with just a mouthful of water, and then it said if you dont have enough water you might experience swelling and a sore asauphegous or however you spell it, and i think thats whats happened. anyway im in a real bad mood cant sleep and need to get up for school tomorrow, would love and appreciate any help you's could give me.

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like an inner ear infection and a throat infection as well. You need antibiotics. In the mean time gargle with warm salt water every 2 hours and take Tylenol for the pain. Keep your throat moist with fluids, cough drops or hard tack candy. Try some numbing throat spray or numbing lozenges like Sucrets. See your Dr tomorrow before you get worse, you don't want to end up with pneumonia or bronchitis and yes, it could already be strep.

  26. QUESTION:
I have weird pains from my surgery?
I had my tonsils and adenoids removed last Friday, the 10th, and I'm experiencing some really strange, and painful, post surgery symptoms. At first, all the pains were things that I read about, and expected. But now, I'm actually kind of scared.

The left side seems basically healed. Well, it doesn't hurt anymore. But the right side is still extremely swollen. I can feel the scab touching the back of my tongue.

Today is the first day that the pain has gone down considerably, so I drank a "big" cup of water. As I swallowed the last of it, I felt some of the water go inside my ear. Is this even possible? It hurt so bad that it brought me to tears, and now, the inside of my ear feels cold and clogged. Not to mention painful.

My second issue is about my tongue. On the right side, under my tongue, towards the back, closer to my teeth than to my tongue, is a little indent. Or pocket or something. Like, if you press your finger there, and took it away, but the indent remained. It's sore, and air constantly gets stuck there, under my tongue, and I have to scoop the bubbles out or else it causes more discomfort.

I've never heard of such strange side effects, and I'm worried that something might be physically wrong with me now because of the surgery.

  27. QUESTION:
Sore Throat - Negative Strep Test?
I have had an extremely sore throat for 18 days. I went to the doctor over a week ago and they ran a strep test which came back negative. I lost my voice at the beginning of this situation and the front of my throat was painful to touch. I have swollen tonsils, with the right one being about twice the size of the left one. There is pain in the right ear, which I think is associated with the swollen tonsil. There is pain on the right side of my tongue, mainly at the base. There were sores on the tongue as well - pink and white little dots, they looked like mini-blisters or white head pimples. There are white streaks on my right tonsil. A very mild fever - less than 100% - off and on. It hurts to swallow anything - tea, coffee, food, soup, jell-o - everything hurts and feels like it is burning the right tonsil. Water causes the least amount of discomfort, and I have been drinking about ten bottles a day. Please let me know if there is anything I should have the doctor test for when I go back this week.

  29. QUESTION:
    Anyone know anything about HIV?
Symptoms that followed 4 months after sexual encounter:(I keep attributing them to HIV)

1)dullish lower back and lower abdominal pain, on and off

    2)vaginal discharge

Symptoms that followed after 6 months:

    3) pain in teeth, Ear pain.

    4)sore throat, whitish tongue

5)sometimes upper chest gets kinda of painful. not v often though

    6) nerves - sometimes brushing material against it makes my skin feel uncomfortable

    7) swollen glands in the throat, dry mouth

    8) Ulcer like formation at the back of my tongue that goes all the way down to the throat.

    9) Headaches

i am 17 years old, dont take drugs, has been about 6 months since unprotected sex with 3 partners with unknown HIV status, i had chlamydia about 4 months ago, was cured completely, was treated for pelvic inflammatory disease, since then pains in abdomen are less but more like pressure not pain. absolutely terrified to have test, how likely is it that with only having these symptoms after 5 months i have HIV? am i freaking out over what is likely to be nothing?

    • ANSWER:
Because most people who have HIV have no symptoms for several years, the ONLY way to find out if you have HIV is to get an HIV test. Most people would test positive within 3 months after getting infected, but in rare cases, it could take up to 6 months for someone to test positive.

You should see a doctor about your symptoms. They may be due to stress or other illness.

You can check the website hivtest.org to find free HIV/STD testing sites in your area. Testing is confidential.

  30. QUESTION:
What is it called when my ears and throat hurt when I swallow?
Hi! So I got really sick really quickly over the weekend (on friday night I had a VERY stressful night). Over the weekened I slept the majority. When I tried to eat I would just throw up bile with blood in it. I couldn't eat or drink- not even just plain water, so I lost 14 pounds in two days. I have been spitting out all the mucus that is in my throat all weekend- yet NONE of it will come out my nose. Now I have been working for the past three days in extreme pain and hunger and there is numbness only on the left side of my body including my tongue and teeth. (It feels like I just got a numbing threatment at the dentist it's so strong!) My neck is swollen on the left side and hurts inside and out. I am starving but swalloing makes me cringe. And my mouth has so many sores and cuts seemingly out of nowhere that I may as well have eaten broken glass. My inner ears are so painful and I have headaches non stop. I do NOT have money for the doctor and do not have health inscurance. Please help me if you can!

    • ANSWER:
Wish I could answer that for you, but those are some crazy symptoms. Growing up, I got tonsilitus a couple times a year, then strep throat a couple times a year... neither ever had the numbing symptoms. The blood/bile combo - that symptom is often related to a blocked intestine, which must be treated asap. (your intestines will rot and become necrotic)

I'm not sure about in Tucson, but I live in Phoenix. I got real sick a couple years ago and went to a urgent care place in chandler, az and the city pays half of your bill for you if you have no insurance.

I'm the same way as you when it comes to medical care, so i never go to the doctor unless i think i'm might die. lol If I had the symptoms you had, I'd be off to urgent care.

  31. QUESTION:
    Persistent mouth sores, any advice?
I have sores that do not heal in my mouth, with ear, neck pain/headache. I have sores on the top back sides of my tongue. "Taste buds" in the back swollen and bleed sometimes. I also have sores inside the cheeks, "viral" lesion on my throat (little bump near the tonsil area), some painful white sores on the roof of the mouth and gums where the jaws meet.

I am non smoker, non drinker, did not use any medications or have any medical problems until now. I am 26 years old. I have not been involved in any risky sexual activity. Husband does not display any symptoms.

Pains, sores and headaches started after very dramatic occurrence in my life. After that I was getting sever anxiety attacks.

I have been to two doctors so far and they shake their heads, just say stress. Did several blood tests, strep culture and they came back normal. One doctor suggested that it is herpes virus (Currently awaiting results) and I started talking Valtrex. I just feel like these doctors do not care enough, blood test was normal, so you are OK. I cannot go directly to oral surgeon because I need GP's referral. My current doctor did not even ask me to follow up, just told me to take Valtrex.

I am a young mother and I want to feel better or know that I can get better. I get very depressed because sores do not heal. My copay is very high () and I am running out of money after several unsuccessful doctor appointments. I went in 6 times over the period of two months. I did get an appointment for the third doctor, who is supposedly very good, but I cannot see her until November.

Can herpes last for two months? I just need to know that I can get better for my son.

    Any help/suggestion would be appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
Alright there are 2 things u should do first switch toothpastes because u may be allergic to the one u r using now. Then but vitamin C supplements so that sores will heal faster

help ! I am so scared ! this is serious!?
A few months ago I was in a crash and hit my head very hard.
They said they thought there was nothing wrong with my head.
I just had a large, painful bump. The pain lasted for months. I had a black eye and it was swollen.
About two months later I had a headache for a few days and then all of a sudden one night I got a sharp pain that shot through my head. It was a weird pain though, nothing like I have ever felt. Afterwards, my entire body felt weird, everything, tongue included.
After that, I kept getting these feelings, Since then I have been getting dizzy.

  33. QUESTION:
    glands and ulcers please help!?
Ok so in the past 3 days i have got deep ulcers on my tongue which make it really painful to eat, when i swallow i get a sharp pain in my ears so its really hard to drink. I have swollen glands and cold sores on my lip. I know I caught the cold sores from my boyfriend and i don't know where everything else has come from. Im really in pain and find it very difficult to sleep, can anyone tell me how long these things should last and ways to make it less painful and get better quicker?! Thanks x

    • ANSWER:
I assume this is your first time having a cold sore? Coldsores are caused by the herpes virus which will now remain in your body for life. Just like genital herpes, your first outbreak of oral herpes can cause horrible symptoms - swollen glands, headache, sore throat. Get yourself some zovirax cream for the coldsores, that should hopefully clear things up, if not then go to the doctors and get some antiviral tablets. If you get any future coldsore outbreaks then they wont be as severe as this once.

For the mouth ulcers, i would recommend you use hot salt water mouth rinses. It's cheap, convenient and it works. 4 times a day and a teaspoon of salt to a glass of hot water - the same temperature you'd drink tea or coffee, swish it round and hold in your mouth for a minute. It tastes horrible but it really does work.

Having the coldsore outbreak will have put strain on your body which is probably what made the ulcers appear. Take some good supplements to help build up your immune system: echinnacea, vitamin c (high dose), vitamin b and zinc are all good. Perhaps a good quality multi vitamin would be best.

Take ibuprofen and paracetamol for the pain. They can be taken together.

  34. QUESTION:
Cheek piercings? Are they worth it?
I really want to get my cheeks pierced, but I don't know...I heard it's extremely painful, and they get infected really easily. Is that true? What kind of jewelry do they pierce it with? Tongue bars, or labret studs? What's the dangers of using the wrong one? How long does the swelling last? And on a scale of 1-10, how much does it hurt? I have 13 piercings (11 ear piercings, nostril, and septum) and I have an average-high pain tolerance. I did pierce my cheek before, but I had some problems, and had to take it out, but when I did it, there wasn't much pain. I really want to get them done, but I'm so unsure...Sorry for all of the questions, I just want to know.

    • ANSWER:
If you've had it before, the pain should be comparable to the last time, unless the piercer goes through the same spot and cuts through some scar tissue. It wouldn't be too much more painful then, though.

One of my friends had her cheek pierced, and she never had any trouble. Just stick to the proper aftercare regimen and you should never have to worry about infection.

A labret stud (flat back affixed to the bar) or a regular barbell (both ends can be fitted with threaded ends, just like a traditional tongue bar) could both be used, it would be your preference in the long run. As long as the bar is long enough, you should be fine with either. However, I would recommend using a labret, as you are less likely to chomp on the part inside of your mouth if it's flat against your cheek.

The main thing to consider about jewellery is the material. You want to make sure you have bioplast or bioflex, so that you don't hurt your teeth when you accidentally bite it (which you will, especially when you're not used to t yet, so be sure your piercer pierces you with bioplast/flex, not steel or titanium)!

If you want to get it done, go for it! The pain is only there for a split second, and then you have a beautiful new piercing!

  35. QUESTION:
Is this just a scar tissue lump? (piercing) 10 points!?
I got my tongue webbing pierced about 2 and a half months ago.
It was really hard for my piercer to do it, because I barley have a webbing.
She ended up having to put the needle in twice because the needle slipped and again, it was really hard to get the needle in because of the tiny webbing I have.

After she put in the barbell and I looked at my new piercing, I noticed there was a tiny bump on each side next to the barbell. I just guessed it was from swelling and the trauma of it being pierced and re pierced within a few minutes.

I have been keeping it clean, I've been doing sea salt water gargles and using Crest Pro Health for a mouth wash rinse.
But about 5 days ago when I was looking at my piercing (making sure there wasn't any signs of infection) the bump/lumpy spot that was on the side of my piercing was bigger.
It doesn't have any pain and there isn't tiny red bumps (I read that tiny red bumps, like 2-3 around a piercing is a sign of infection) there is just a one small lump that kinda looks like scar tissue.
Like, whenever I have got my ears pierced, I have got a small lump in the piercing and I was always told it's a scar tissue lump.
-My tongue webbing looks like that's what it is.
I touched it, it feels kinda hard.
I went to my piercer and showed her, asked what it is and she just said it looks like
a scar tissue lump and not to be worried unless it's painful to the touch and starts getting dark red and getting pus.

-So it is just scar tissue? And is there anything I can do to get rid of it, or when will it go away?

    • ANSWER:
Ive gotten a lot of peircings, and that is just scar tissue from it being peirced twice. It should go away within another month or so. Your mouth is just trying to heal still from having it there, as would any peircing.

    • ANSWER:

Swollen Painful Tongue Allergies

Taste buds are different muscle fibers present on the surface of our tongue that help in distinguishing the different flavors and taste of the food we eat. The tongue is divided into five oral portions that help in differentiating the taste of the food items, by detecting the five elements of taste, namely, salty, sour, bitter, sweet and umami (or savory). However, at times deficiency of nutrients or by consuming hot and spicy food, our taste buds tends to get swollen, resulting in inflamed taste buds, also known as swollen taste buds. The swelling is usually small and white in color. If 00004000 they are not attended at the earliest, inflamed taste buds can lead to other complications, such as mouth ulcers and tongue infections. Glance through the lines below to know the various causes of swollen taste buds and different remedies for treating the same. Causes Of Swollen Taste Buds

  • One of the most basic causes of developing inflamed taste buds is through consuming very hot, spicy or salty foods. Such foods irritate or burn the taste buds, resulting in swelling.
  • Taste buds when exposed to toxins, such as alcohol, tobacco smoking, insecticides, etc. also cause inflamed taste buds.
  • People who are allergic to certain food stuffs or acidic foods, such as lemons, grapefruits and some sauces, are also likely to get infected by swelling taste buds.
  • Tongue ulcers and mouth ulcers caused due to thrush or any yeast infection are another common cause of inflamed taste buds.
  • Deficiency of certain minerals and vitamins, like vitamin B complex, also lead to swollen taste buds.
  • Inflamed taste buds are also the outcome of laryngectomy, a surgery wherein a part of or the entire larynx is removed. This surgery is usually carried out for treating cancer of the larynx.

Treatment Of Swollen Taste Buds

  • Add some salt to a glass of warm water. Gargle with this saline mixture to relieve the swollen taste buds. However, ensure that the water should be just warm to be tolerated by your taste buds, else it can worsen the problem.
  • To reduce the swelling, apply some baking soda on the inflamed taste buds. This will cool down the swelling, thereby healing it completely.
  • Applying ice on the taste buds is another effective remedy. Simply press the ice against the swollen taste bud to cool and reduce the swelling. However, make sure that you do not apply much force to the taste buds, which can otherwise stop the blood flow in the tongue.
  • In case you have white spots on the tongue or roof of the mouth, gargle thrice a day with tea tree oil. Used as a weapon against infections caused by bacteria, virus and fungi, tea tree oil is highly effective for treating such swelling. However, do not consume tea tree oil directly as it can cause hallucinations.
  • Rinse your mouth with honey for faster healing of the inflamed taste buds. You can otherwise eat honey as well.
  • Combine garlic, ginger and pepper. Form a pill or dilute it in soup and have it 3 to 4 times a day to reduce the infection caused by inflamed taste buds.
  • In case you have developed burns on your tongue, eat ice chips, soft and cold foods to relieve pain and inflammation. These foods also prevent the problem from getting worse.
  • Apply glycerin to the swollen area of the tongue in case the swelling is caused due to an infected cut or biting.

  1. QUESTION:
can a swollen tongue and throat be a form of an STD?
I WOKE UP THIS MORNING WITH A SWOLLEN TONGUE AND A PAINFUL THROAT. 2 DAYS AGO I BLEW MY BOYFRIEND AND YESTERDAY I WOKE UP WITH A FEW ALLERGIES AROUND MY LIPS. THEN NOW, MY TONGUE IS SWOLLEN AND I'M HAVING A HARD TIME SWALLOWING...

    • ANSWER:
Does Your tongue have white patches on it? If not now it might later. Sounds like you have Thrush which is a form of a yeast infection. It can get down your throat and it makes it hard to swollow. Call your doctor and he can give you some medicine and it will be gone in like two to three days. You might want him to look at it if it doesn't go away after taking meds. Could be a sign of a STD but most likely not.

  2. QUESTION:
numb tongue and swollen tastebuds? food allergy?
Last night I went out for dinner and had a roast beef panini and chips & salsa. After I was done eating, I noticed that my tongue felt a little weird/painful in one spot. I looked in the mirror and it looked like a couple of my tastebuds were a bit swollen. After a couple hours it stopped hurting, but since I woke up this morning, the tip of my tongue has been a little bit numb and looks a little more red than the rest of my tongue. Two people I talked to have said that maybe I was slightly allergic to something in my dinner, but I just think that's weird because it's pretty common food (I've definitely had roast beef sandwiches and chips & salsa before) and I'm 22 and have never come across any allergies before. What do you think?
The salsa was fairly mild too.

    • ANSWER:
You definitely had either an allergic reaction to the food, or the food had something in it that irritated your tongue. There are all sorts of different things that can be put into salsa, and there are even hundreds of varieties of chili peppers, so the salsa is a likely culprit.

  3. QUESTION:
Swollen lymph nodes, big tonsils, sore red bumps on back of tongue?
I have swollen lymph nodes, big tonsils, and sore red bumps on the back of my tongue. Swallowing is somewhat painful (not too unbearable, though). I also have headaches and a stuffed up nose. I went to the doctor and I don't have strep. I also don't have any known allergies so I don't think this is an allergic reaction. I can breathe fine, too. I have no idea what is going on, so if you have any ideas, write them! :)

    • ANSWER:
Sounds like a sinus infection or sinusitis. Go to the store and buy some ear wax remover. Have someone put in following directions. The next morning use the shower head and wash the ears out, use nothing else inside. Do that for three days.

Go to the store and get saline nasal spray and use it several times a day. Blow the nose then spray two times and breath through the mouth. Wipe off the top of the spray each time.

If that does not work in three days, go see a doctor. You could have a middle ear infection and the drainage is affecting the tonsils and rest of your body. Not worth risking getting bronchitis or worse pneumonia

  4. QUESTION:
Increase food allergies? Does anyone experience these symptoms?
During the late 1990’s I began having problems with my tongue swelling, geographic tongue with painful blisters and difficulty breathing when I eat a some popular food chains. I never had food allergies prior to this. Are there other people with this problem? I am beginning to wonder if globalization and food brought into this country is the culprit since eating at home it never happened and eating at privately owned diners it seldom happens, but at certain chain restaurants it always happens.

    • ANSWER:
It could be a sensitivity to preservatives or flavor enhancers and other food additives such as M.S.G.MSG is used far more liberally then most people think, and its not just used in Chinese restaurant's.
Have a look at the following websites and read up on food additives, preservatives and flavor enhancers.

      http://msgtruth.org/

      http://msgtruth.org/whywe.htm

What Flavorings and Taste Enhancers Cause Reactions?
Mono sodium Glutamate (MSG). MSG is a flavor enhancer added to various foods, and also occurs naturally. Reactions to MSG have been called the “Chinese Restaurant Syndrome,” and symptoms include numbness on the back of the neck, shoulders and arms, weakness and palpitations. Other symptoms include facial pressure/tightness, headaches, nausea, chest pain and drowsiness. MSG is also suspected of worsening asthma symptoms.

Spices. Spices are the aromatic part of various weeds, flowers, roots, barks and trees. Because they are derived from plants, spices have the ability to cause allergic reactions, just like pollens, fruits and vegetables. The most common spices used include chili peppers, celery, caraway, cinnamon, coriander, garlic, mace, onion, paprika, parsley and pepper.

      What Preservatives Cause Reactions?
Sulfates.Sulfates are common preservatives used in various foods, and are well known to cause a variety of symptoms. Learn more about sulfate allergy.

Nitrates and Nitrites. These additives are used as curing agents in meat products. Few reports of reactions to nitrates and nitrites exist, and include urticaria, itching and anaphylaxis.

Benzoates. Benzoates are used in foods as antimicrobial preservatives, and have been responsible for worsening asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria, and flushing in some people.

Sorbates/sorbic acid. Sorbates are added to foods as antimicrobial preservatives. Reactions to sorbates are rare, but have included reports of urticaria and contact dermatitis.
How are Reactions to Food Additives Treated?
Many of the reactions to food additives, such as with MSG, are mild and resolve without treatment. More severe reactions, including urticaria, angioedema, worsening asthma and anaphylaxis may require immediate medical attention. These reactions are treated much the same way as other food allergies. If reactions are severe, it may be necessary for a person to be prepared for a severe reaction (such as carrying injectable epinephrine and wearing a medical alert bracelet.

Otherwise the mainstay of therapy for people with adverse reactions to food additives is avoidance of the culprit food additive.

Swollen under tongue and lump on neck?
For the past two nights, I have woken up with the bottom floor of my gums swollen; right under my tongue. On the right side of my neck, there is also a firm but definitely fleshy bump. It is slightly painful when I push on it. It is also a slight bother to swallow since my tongue presses on the top of the bump. All of these symptoms seem to disappear when I take an ibuprofen, but I just don't understand how this could suddenly happen. And yes, I do have allergies, but I'm not being exposed to any of them. Is there an answer to why this seems to be happening as of recently?

  8. QUESTION:
    my tounge is swollen..?
Two days ago, I noticed it was bit painful to open my mouth. Last night, it felt like my tongue web had 'snapped' or was cut in some way. But when I got home and looked it was fine, but it looked a little bit swollen. This concerned me. This morning, it is a bit more swollen and it hurts to open my mouth at all. My tongue isn't fully swollen, but the underside is.
I have no idea what may have caused this. It's not allergies; (I have never had a reaction in all my 16 years that involved this type of problem), and I don't have any part of my mouth pierced.

(I'm going to the doctor, but can not till tomorrow so I really want to try to figure out what's going on sooner)

Its started when she was in her mid teens!

  9. QUESTION:
What is wrong with my tongue? Should I go to the doctor?
Three days ago I woke up with a very sore tongue. It almost felt like I ate too much sour candy and my tongue was burnt. (I didn't eat any candy though). The tip of my tongue was all red and rough, but I thought it was pass as the day went. Then by afternoon time, I had discovered I had about 8 white spots/sores all on the center and left side of the under side of my tongue. Even portions of skin on the underside of my tongue were lifting up. The sides of the tongue back by the molars felt like knife slashes in it. I thought maybe the sores were just canker sores and would pass. I tried rinsing with Hydrogen Peroxide and even using an OTC canker sore medication, but I haven't had any relief. I can't brush my teeth without pain or eat pretty much anything. My gums have become sore, and now there are spots on the right side of my under-tongue. My mouth is reallly dry and my tongue feels like sandpaper. I wake up and it looks like my tongue is swollen because I have indents in it from the back of my teeth. Normally, I can touch my nose with my tongue, but now it feels like I'm hyper-extending it to even lick my lips. It's so painful! I feel like I am just over thinking this whole thing, but I don't know where it came from. I thought I might have had an allergic reaction to something I ate, but no allergy pills have worked to lessen the pain.

I haven't had any oral sexual activity, so I don't think it's something related to that but I am just confused. Why did this happen out of the blue? What could it be? When should I call the doctor?
I have not been on any medications, at least not recently. I had my appendix taken out about a month ago (only took percaset) and seem to be doing fine since then. I'm wondering if these could be the onset of a sickness? Could I be getting sick? Or could it be left over from being sick with appendicitis? I haven't changed vitamins and I haven't had a change in my menstral cycle.

    • ANSWER:
Yes, see a doctor. It could be thrush, or a number of other things. I wouldn't put anything else on it until I talked to a physician...it might make things worse. Are you on an antibiotic, by any chance? That will cause thrush in some people, like myself (similar to a yeast infection.) I'm not in the medical field, so please don't take my word for it...see a doctor.

  10. QUESTION:
    Mouth Pain: What's Wrong?
I have been having slight pain in my whole mouth the past few days/week. Just today/tonight it got extremely bad.

I just got my tongue pierced about a month/a month and a half ago. It healed nicely and I was just fine. The only side effect was that occasionally, I'll get a blister on the left side of the bottom of my tongue. Right next to the tongue ring bar.

Now, it is extremely swollen. My tongue, throat, etc is very swollen and VERY painful. It hurts to swallow, it hurts to suck on a straw, it hurts to eat, etc.

What could it be? I was thinking food allergy, but I can't think of anything out of the ordinary that I've eaten. I'm aware that you can develop allergies whenever, but this is ridiculous. I can still breathe so far. (Lol.....)

Should I go to the doctor?
@Erin - Obviously, you don't know much. If you suspect you have an infection around or near your tongue ring, you DO NOT take the tongue ring out. It could cause the hole to close up around the infected part. If that happens, you need surgery to fix it.

    • ANSWER:
I think you should! It could be an infection or an allergy,or it could be a stone in your salivary gland. You should go!

  11. QUESTION:
Tongue, throat, uvula and soft palette all inflamed!! Help!?
Last week I had strep throat, finished my z-pack antibiotic Sat, and on tuesday my tongue started to hurt. Yesterday my whole tonge and throat were inflamed and it was difficult to swallow. My glands are swollen and tender and I can't get rid of some terrible cough that just hurts my throat more. I went to my general doc today and he thinks I have some kind of infection in my glands again (didn't know what it was) and that my entire soft palete, uvula, throat and tongue inflamation look like it's an allergic reaction to something but he just isn't sure... WHAT!?
I am hoping that someone with medical knowlege can give me some answers. Oh yeah, the cough is due to allergies. I am not allergic to anything that I am aware of food wise... I just need some answers as to why it is so painful to eat, swallow, cough. Are there infections in the glands of the throat that cause the mouth to inflame also? Help!

    • ANSWER:
Might be viral pharyngitis or mono but you'll have to get a real diagnosis. It sounded like an allergic reaction until I got to the part about the glands. It's painful to eat, swallow and cough because..well, you already know why. Heat helps some and ice helps others. See which works for you.

  12. QUESTION:
So, My Uvula has Swollen, and I Don't Know Why?
I don't really know why, but two days ago I started having a sore throat. I checked my mouth in the mirror with a flashlight, and while it did seem red, nothing really seemed wrong.

The next day, same thing, however now it was becoming painful to swallow and I constantly felt the urge to cough up mucus. Sorry to sound gross, but it seemed like it had dry particles in it after I spat it out.

Today I woke up, feeling the same but worse yet. I checked my throat this morning and my uvula has swollen and become a dark red color. It can nearly touch my tongue, and it's also wider than normal.

I don't think it was caused by dehydration, because I haven't really gone out and done a lot vigorous exercise outside (too hot!!) and even when I don't do a lot (I did about 20 min in the morning, 20 at night yesterday) I make sure to drink plenty of fluids (I had two glasses of water, a can of soda, two large glasses of Kool-Aid, and two popsicles yesterday, for example). So I kinda ruled out dehydration.

However, the noodles we ate for dinner last night was very salty, so I did have one of those said glasses of Kool-Aid with it. So I don't know if that rules out too much salt. I also just checked my temperature, and I don't have a fever.

Also, for the past few years, I have dealt with persistent sore throats during the winter, sometimes for a month. No other cold symptoms - ie, coughing, congestion, stuffy nose etc. - just the sore throat.

I have never had strep, I have no allergies, and I haven't had my tonsils removed.

    Any suggestions?
Thank you, everyone. I went to see a doctor this afternoon. It wasn't strep, but he thinks it's a viral infection that's going around but it usually only lasts 3-5 days. His advice was to take it easy the next few days and my body should fight it off.

    • ANSWER:
It might be a case of a bad cold or infection, sounds more like a bacterial infection to me than a viral, so maybe you should go to the doctor and tell him what's going on, and he might prescribe you a remedy.

For the time being, try something cold, it usually helps with sore throats, like a glass of refrigerated water or maybe a cool drink? Have you tried those anti cold drops for sore throats?

  13. QUESTION:
My thyroid is swollen, is it an allergy?
My friend brought over some of those Crazy Core Skittles today and I had some. Now my thyroid is swollen and it hurts a bit to swallow. I usually get the painful swallowing when I eat a lot of regular Skittles or other really chewy candies, but it never lasts this long. I also have a strange little bump on the bottom of my tongue, I guess where it lifts up from the bottom of my mouth on the same side as the swollen thyroid. Kinda gross, but it almost looks like a pimple. :(

I'm not sure what this is...my friend told me it's an allergic reaction, and I guess since these aren't regular Skittles that may be the case. What do you people think?

    • ANSWER:

  14. QUESTION:
    What am I allergic to?
My tongue used to swell into painful white patches when I ate or drank citrus filled foods or drinks. My doctor diagnosed me with a citric acid allergy that had triggered thrush (swelling of the tongue). That was at least 5 years ago. Now I only experience a vaguely painful stinging/burning when I consume citric acid.

A kitten scratched me a few years ago, and I immediately went into shock. My throat closed, I broke out in hives, my face turned completely red (and I'm black!), and I couldn't breathe. I didn't even need a doctor to tell me that I was highly allergic to cats. I get sick everytime I go near one.

Now I have a new problem. I've been suffering from random allergy attacks. I've had a few while sleeping. Sometimes it happens in school. And just yesterday I went to the rodeo, and while I was watching the livestock events (barrel racing, calf scramble, mutton bustin'), I experienced the worst attack I've had in a while. My chest started tightening, my ears and throat began itching, my eyes watered, and my chin itched. My nose started running, I couldn't stop sneezing. I thought I was going to die. I was about to flag down an ems worker, but strangely enough, when they put all the livestock away I started feeling better! I've ridden horses, and I've milked cows, and I've never ever had a problem. I don't know what I'm allergic to! Can anybody help me?

I have a lot of pollen and dust allergies, and am also allergic to cats. Ironically I've also had allergic reactions watching rodeos - sounds strange as I live in a suburban environment and only get to a visiting rodeo event every couple of years.

Anyway, it could be that the dust / pollen kicked up by all the scrambling creatures was the cause - at least that's what I think happened with me. While it's possible you have some kind of allergic reaction to the fur of the cattle themselves that seems quite unlikely to me.

Avoidance is of course rule one for those of us with allergies - though it's typically much easier said than done.

Have you ever talked to an allergist about allergy shots? Have you ever tried them - they can be very effective for a lot of people.

Another approach of course is to treat the symptoms. Are you on any daily allergy meds? Some of the new, minimally sedating antihistamines like Allegra and Zyrtec can be very effective (though Zyrtec can have sedating side effects for some). I take Claritin - generic every day along with Flonase (Fluticasone) nasal spray. These and as much avoidance as possible usually do the trick. Good luck!

  15. QUESTION:
Could I possibly have a food allergy?
For some reason some food that i choose to eat, will just cause my tongue to swell. For example anything acidic, strawberries, tomatoes, pineapples, even A-1 steak sauce can cause my tongue to swell up but it is the only reaction I have and usually goes away within an hour or so but it's very frustrating cause it is so painful that I can't eat anything else until it goes down. Does this sound like a food allergy?

    • ANSWER:
Yes that does sound like allergy reactions I would see a allergy doctor to follow up for testing to see what your allergic to

  16. QUESTION:
    Help with agonizing pain?
I've had an intricate series of misfortunes over the past two weeks. Last Thursday I had to get a root canal done on my lower left molar and there was a serious abscess. The first part went fine and the dentist prescribed me with penicillin and hydrocodone for the week following. He also recommended taking advil, but the pharmacist told me to be careful mixing the advil with the hydro, so I didn't take any advil until the 4th day after the procedure after finding it was safe. My gums were quite swollen and painful, but the medication did an ok job of dulling it all. Once I started taking the advil, I felt like my throat had closed a little and that my tongue was swollen, but I thought it was just from the surgery. I turned out after another 4 days of taking the advil that I was having minor allergic reactions to it, which in turn made the overall swelling worse. I stopped taking the advil and took some benadryl to treat the allergy, which worked over 2-3 days. By this time I was out of the hydrocodone and had the 2nd stage of the root canal done the next friday, which irritated the swelling and induced more pain, but I was not prescribed any more painkillers. I started taking tylenol extra strength every 4 hours, and accidentally took 16 of them over the course of 31 hours due to the recurring pain. I have only been able to sleep for 1-3 hours at a time up to this day, and the pain is always what wakes me up and I am unable to return to sleep until about 20 hours later. After finding I had taken too many tylenol, I called poison control and they told me to get to ER immediately since I was having some symptoms of overdose. I went and got the blood work done and everything came out fine, liver %100 perfect and acitominophen levels at zero. They told me not to take any more tylenol for the next 24 hours, which was quite hard for me to deal with because of the pain. Almost exactly 24 hours later I returned to the tylenol, which relieves the pain for about 2-3 hours in 1000mg doses. I've been monitoring my time/intake to the minute now. I went to the dentist again yesterday to make sure there was no infection or anything, and he said I checked out fine, despite the excruciating pain. This is now the 12th day after the procedure and nothing has changed. I need the tylenol or the pain is totally unbearable, but this doesn't seem right. I started fasting the day I got the 1st part of the root canal done out of fear of infecting it, and had lost 14lbs by the 8th day. I am now at a 17lb loss total, but I've been trying to eat properly since I am hypoglycemic and have been getting headaches. But from the fast, now whenever I eat I feel nauseous and haven't had an appetite this entire time anyways. The pain from my gums seems like it is channeling itself through my entire body. I feel like all my senses are extremely heightened and that is agonizing on its own. My hair touching my face feels like needles, if a light is on I get a headache, if even the slightest sound is made it sounds like an explosion in my head, the only thing un-heightened is taste really and the increased sense of smell doesn't bother me as long as nothing smells bad. I think the heightened senses have to do with not eating, because this has happened before, but not to this degree.

I have also been under a lot of stress. I'm a college student and have exams this week. I thought I was going to die or have serious kidney/liver problems for the rest of my life from the tylenol OD. And on top of everything, I slept with a woman who I found out the next day was an escort, and yes I wore protection, but still a scary thought. I had severe anxiety attacks for 2 days before going to ER.

I am closing in on my maximum daily dose of tylenol and when that comes to an end, the pain is likely to return and the vicious cycle will start again. If anyone has any recommendation besides seeing a doctor, please let me know what you think. I bought some orajel and tylenol PM extra strength to possibly help me sleep today.

  17. QUESTION:
Am I alone? I am on round two of severe hives in 10-12 years and I'm frustrated!?
I wake up every morning with sporatic hives. Usually a lip swollen, an ear, lumps on the back of my head. Some itch, some are very painful. I currently have a painful one on my left palm. Half of my tongue swells, usually left or right side, or the upper or lower side. I have gone through the usual barrage of allergy tests with little or no results. The first time this happened, about 10-12 yrs ago, it lasted an entire year. Ended as quickly and mysteriously as it started. This time, I'm on my second month and it seems to me this one is more severe. I take Benedryl Allergy when I simply can't stand it any more but don't receive much relief. I've scoured the internet for possible diseases related to hives but I have none of the other symptoms of that disease. The closest is monno, but even then I don't have all the symptoms. Can anyone help me?!

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like you are describing idiopathic urticaria which is believed to be an unexplained autoimmune response. People with this condition sometimes respond to immunosuppressants, but only a small percentage. Finding a drug that works is trial and error. The most likely med to work is prednisone, but the side effects can be worse than the hives.

  18. QUESTION:
Is it possible to be allergic to almost all medication?
My sister develops severe skin reactions to nearly every medication. In the form of large red blisters that secrete fluids and are itchy as well as painful accompanied by severe swelling of the legs, arms and most often ankles. Sometimes occumanied by swelling of the tongue and/or tightness in the throat. This occurs with medications in pill form as well as liquid and those that dissolve on the tongue.

Most notably but not exclusivly pain relievers even over the counter meds from nyquil to baby aspirin. Is there a cronic condition that causes this or is it merely an allergy to any and all medication?

The odd thing is she also gets these blisters when she is severely stressed, most often on the calves and ankles when stressed.

She is 30 and never had issues before, it first began in these last few years and becomes more severe as time goes on.

Her doctors, thus far, are supremely unconcerned but I find it very alarming so any and all advice is much appreciated. She cannot take anything for pain relief, no matter how severe. Please help.

  19. QUESTION:
    Are these symptoms familiar?
Lately I've been wondering about something that happened to me back in January. After a small New Years gathering where I might have eaten some questionable food I flew overseas to stay with a friend of mine. I started feeling nauseous but assumed it was just something I ate.

However, I ended up lying in bed for two days straight literally unable to eat anything, just drinking water and chamomile tea. I felt horribly nauseous but did not throw up and I didn't have a fever. On the third day I was able to nibble on a piece of bread and just assumed food poisoning but later something strange started happening.

My throat sort of swelled up and I felt like I was having these weird painful contractions. I could still breathe with little difficulty but eventually it got so bad that I could barely speak as my throat was swollen and it sort of pushed my tongue out. I was taken to a hospital and they gave me a shot of cortisone but it didn't help and I don't have any known allergies. Eventually they gave me a muscle relaxant, which stopped them for a while. Then it started up again and I was taken to another hospital, examined, but the doctor said nothing was wrong except some possible acid from my stomach coming up. By then it was even worse, I couldn't speak, and my eyes kept rolling in the back of my head. However this time they said it was a reaction to the medicine I was given at the previous hospital!

Eventually it calmed down and I went home, too exhausted to do anything more. All this happened in the span of about eight hours. I fell asleep and when I woke up everything was fine with my throat, though it took about a weak to recover from the nausea.

I flew home early and went to my doctor but he was unable to diagnose what the hell this was. So I'm just wondering, any of you heard of this? Some weird type of virus or something?

    • ANSWER:
sounds like an allergic reaction to something I am suprised they didn't try benadryl.

  20. QUESTION:
anyone ever had an allergy to poultry?
I love chicken and turkey, but when i was 18 i found that i had a painful reaction when i ate them.my tongue , lips and gums felt as thoug they were swelling and itchingalthough it wasnt visible.I also have pain and discomfort all over.
Please do not suggest consulting a doctor

    • ANSWER:
My father in law developed a similar reaction (in his 60's!) to anything with citric acid in it. Lips and gums swell for a few days 18 hours after he is exposed to it. Sometimes you can see it and sometimes you would never know cause it's all in his mouth! It usually takes 2 days to go away.

The doctors have been totally puzzled on this. No one has ever heard of this kind of allergy. They have all warned him to have an epi-pen ready just in case he has trouble breathing, though that has not happened yet.

Unfortunately, he used to be able to take zyrtec, but then developed a resistance to it and nothing else seems to work. So the only solution for him is to try to avoid it.

This seems very similar to your reaction so while it might be unusual, it's not unheard of. Good Luck!

Swollen Painful Toes Symptoms

Gout can bring about a number of unpleasant side effects, but the most common complaint is joint pain. This pain can be mild at times, but for many, a flare up means they can’t walk, and moving in any position is painful. This means the most common thing gout sufferers want to know is how they can manage their gout joint symptom and pain that comes their way.

Prevention is key, but there are times when preventative measures won’t work. In those cases, there has to be something that can be done to get rid of or at least lessen the pain.

Gout pain is a direct result of high levels of uric acid in the body leading to deposits of uric acid crystals in the joints. The kidneys process uric acid but they can not always keep up especially when there is just too much of it.

Someone who is a heavy drinker or eats foods rich in purine, for example, is going to have a bigger problem with uric acid build up and are therefore more likely to suffer from gout. The kidneys will focus on clearing out the alcohol, and the uric acid secondly or they become overwhelmed by the amount of uric acid. That means levels will build up dramatically. When that happens, the uric acid has to find somewhere to go.

Excess uric acid forms crystals, and those crystals have a special place they like to go. The most common spot is in the toe joint but deposits can occur in other joints of the body.

This causes pain, tenderness, and inflammation. If you think about your joints, you know they are normally cushioned with fluids that allow them to move freely without much friction. Imagine sharp crystals forming there instead – this gives you a good idea why gout is so painful and why the sufferer often seeks immediate relief.

When the first gout joint symptom appears, most want to do something right away. Left untreated a normal bout of gout will least from a week to ten days. You can take a NSAID right away. This is a pain reliever that will also help with inflammation and swelling, allowing some flexibility in the joint. Make sure you chose a pain reliever that also tackles inflammation, like ibuprofen, as painrelievers like aspirin can actually make gout symptoms worse by inhibiting uric acid excretion.

When the attack is severe, there are other options for immediate relief. Some doctors will give an injection of corticosteroid. This is a steroid and will work almost immediately. However, this is not something that can be used too often as it can weaken the joint tissues and surrounding bones and can lead to other problems in the future.

There are other steps that can be taken by the patient when they are experiencing pain. Trying to relax the area and keeping the joint elevated is always a good idea. If the muscles around the joint are relaxed, there won’t be as much tension on the area, and thus less pain.

If you can stand the pain of weight on your joint, try applying some crushed ice wrapped in a towel. Keep on the joint for 10 minutes and repeat as necessary. This should help to soothe the pain as it has numbing effect.

Alternatively try a charcoal poultice. Mix together 1/2 cup of powdered activated charcoal and 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed and add hot water (not boiling) to form a paste. Gently apply to the swollen joint and cover it so it stays in place. You can either leave this on overnight or change about every 4 hours during the day. Beware, charcoal stains anything it touches so use old bedsheets or wear old clothes and take care with furniture and carpets.

Drinking plenty of water or herbal tea helps to dilute uric acid levels in the blood and aids the kidneys in flushing out the excess amounts.

Staying off the effected joint can also help, though this is not always something someone c 00004000 an to do. Learning to manage lifestyle is important to lessen the times when a gout joint symptom will occur. Take time to learn to modify diet and lifestyle so the attacks are fewer and further apart is the best way to deal with them is to prevent them in the first place.

Swollen Painful Toes Joints

Pain in the muscles and joints is frequently termed aarthritisa by patients and sometimes by doctors, but most aarthritisa is not arthritis at all. True arthritis affects the joints, and the joints are red, warm, swollen, and painful to move. aArthralgiaa means pain without inflammation in the joints. aMyalgiaa means pain in the muscles. these pains are not arthritis but can be very bothersome. Usually they are not serious and will go away. They can be caused by tension, virus infections, unusual exertion, accidents, or they can have no obvious cause. Only seldom do they indicate a serious disease.

There are over 100 types of arthritis and rheumatism. The four most common types are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and spondylitis. Osteoarthritis is usually not serious, occurs in later life, and frequently causes knobby swelling of the end joints of the fingers. Rheumatoid arthritis usually starts in middle or later life and may cause you to feel sick and stiff all over in addition to the joint problems. Gout occurs mostly in men, with sudden, severe attacks of pain and swelling, usually in one joint at a time-frequently the big toe, the ankle, or the knee. Spondylitis affects the back and joints of the low back and may be suspected if your back is sore for a long time, particularly stiff in the morning, and you are unable to touch your toes.

Arthralgia and myalgia syndromes are much more common than true arthritis. Doctors often do not agree on diagnostic terms in this area, and two doctors may give different names to your problem. Arthralgia and myalgia seldom progress to a serious condition. the consequences of arthritis occur very slowly and are often better prevented than corrected. Arthritis, arthralgia, and myalgia result in more lost work days due to sickness than any other category of disease.

Only rarely does a patient with arthritis or arthralgia need to be seen by a physician immediately. Home treatment will usually resolve the problem. The relative emergencies are: (1) infection, (2) nerve damage, (3) fractures near a joint, and (4) gout. In the first three, serious damage may result if the joint is neglected; and in the fourth, the pain is so intense that immediate help is needed. Fever, weight loss, or other symptoms besides pain, or pain persisting for six weeks or more indicates the need to see the doctor if there is no obvious minor cause for these symptoms.

Both rest and exercise are important in treating muscle and joint pain. Try to relax and gently stretch the involved areas. Warm baths, massage, and stretching exercises should be used as frequently as possible. Sponge-soled shoes may help if you walk or stand on hard floors. Better light to help you relax a bit farther from the page or a better chair may help if you spend a lot of time at a desk. Regular exercise, slowly increased from every gentle move to more vigorous, can help restore the proper muscle tone; I recommend walking, bicycling, and swimming. Aspirin and ibuprofen are available over the counter and may be used in low to moderate doses. You can significantly reduce the chance of muscle and joint pain with these treatments.

Swollen Painful Toes Itchy

Swelling foot is really annoying, painful and even prevents you from doing your daily tasks. It is recommended to get a proper medical check-up because swelling foot can be a symptom of various serious medical conditions like arthritis and nerve circulatory problem.

Surrounding such protruded s 00004000 welling is a fairly significant reddened area. Internally, the consistency that leads to such expansion, in the form of swelling, is a combination of a cluster-like concentration of localized deceased skin cells and pus, which leads to excessive inflammation.

Without a doubt, more and more people are more concerned about their health when they are asked to take antibiotics. Since the main way to treat acne would include some antibiotics, more and more people are considering to quit those medications and try to cure acne naturally.

Keep in mind that these remedies only apply to insects like bees, yellow jackets, wasps, hornets or fire ants. For spiders, scorpions, ticks, centipedes or other poisonous insects you should seek treatment from a health provider.

Two of my toes have become really itchy and they have little bumbs on them and they have swollen. What is this? I know for a fact it is NOT ATHELETES FOOT. So theres not point suggestion it because i know what atheletes foot looks like and this is not it. It has been snowing where i am though and it is winter could this be a reason?

    • ANSWER:
I am not a doctor, so if it's too the point that you need medical attention, then don't trust my answer too much, but i've had this exact problem for over a year. i find that its actually embarrassing for me because i will try to scratch my toes on the rug or carpet or something for relief. its horrible! and i have the little bumps and everything as well. there are sprays and things out there to help, but i've found that just when im at home, after you've gotten out of the shower, dry your feet and toes REALLY well, like pay extra attention to drying them. ill warn you, the drying will make it itch since you're messing with them with a towel, but your feet need to be clean and dry. once they're dry, just apply everyday neosporin to the toes that are causing you problems. you could also use an itch relieving cream like cortizone or something. treat this like you would an itchy bump on any other part of your body.. just use any rash/itch cream that you would use on your arms, legs, etc.

hope that helps! it works a bit for me. if it becomes miserable though id probably see a doctor.

  7. QUESTION:
Why have I got itchy, red swollen patches on my feet?
The last 3 weeks I have had red, swollen itchy patches on my feet. They can become very painful, to the point where I am limping around.
The area that itches and is swollen can move each day, around the toes, by my ankle, on the side, on the sole, and from foot to foot. The skin is not broken or flaky.
It is driving me insane, partly because of the itching and partly because of the swelling and pain.
I have been prescribed anti-fungal cream, and 2 different steroid creams, which have been no help as yet!
Does any one have any ideas as to what could be causing it, and what might help.
    Thank you!!!

    • ANSWER:
It might that because the area around the foot can easily be moist from your shoe, skin can become very itchy and loose because of contact with liquid. I have a foot which is extremely flaky, and sometimes when it gets to itchy, I get the red patches. All because of the itching.

It is best that what you are doing know will help the patches heal, avoid scratching them and maybe wear thin light socks

  8. QUESTION:
    Really, really bad swollen toes?
OK, so this is a little random, but for the last year or so my toes will often swell up for a few days for no reason. They get really fat and red and feel hot and are actually really painful especially if I try and bend them and also they feel a bit itchy? It happens completely randomly, I can't find anything common to the times they swell, I don't wear shoes that are too tight. Any ideas what it could be? It lasts 2/3 days, then goes...
And, I googled "swollen toes" it came up with articles about gout! There's no way I have gout! I hardly drink any alcohol and I'm a vegetarian!!!

    • ANSWER:
There are a number of reasons. You don't need to drink a lot to get gout. My dad has gout, and he hardly ever drinks. It could just be water retention, or if you walk a lot you could just be overly sensitive. Does it happen around your period? That would explain a lot. Try taking ibuprofen, or a diuretic, see if that helps. If not, you may want to talk to a doctor. It could be Edema, which can be serious.

  9. QUESTION:
    My toes were frostbitten...?
now my pinky toe is red, swollen and extremely painful. its itchy yet it hurts. is there anything i can do to minimize pain while it heals? is it able to heal?

You need to go to the doctor, they can give you a topical cream for the pain and itchiness, get to the dr so they can help you prevent further damage or infection

  10. QUESTION:
Toes swelling from broken leg cast?
Hi, I broke me leg couple of weeks ago and have a cast up to my knee for six weeks. At night my toes become like big fat sausages and are really itchy and then not so bad in the daytime. Putting foot up doesn't make any difference to the swelling. The cast itself is comfortable enough (as far as a cast can be called comfortable!), but the discomfort in my toes is awful. I do have a corn on my toe which is also extremely painful and swollen and not getting any better even though no weight is being put on that foot. Is my problem caused by the cast (thinking maybe water retention at night and ankle swelling?) or could the corn be infected? Just don't want to bother the fracture clinic as they're really busy or do I just need a visit to the chiropodist? bit of a crystal ball question this.....

    • ANSWER:
If your toes are swelling you need to go to A and E and they will sort your cast out, although the cast feels alright, it proble isnt a good fit.

  11. QUESTION:
Swollen, itchy foot, what can this be?
It started on saturday as a small spot on top of my big toe that started to itch, i didn't think anything of it. Now almost my whole foot is swollen ( double the size) and is really painful and also where it is swollen it itches really badly. The spot where it started itching on saturday has three small blisters on it that have popped and are now oozing a clear fluid. I am at a loss at to what this can be, I have looked everywhere online but cant find anything about it. I will go to my doctor about it tommorow since it is independence day today and nothing is open. If it helps i live in the caribbean.
I wasn't bitten by anything I was just doing my routine dog grooming on saturdays, (because thats my weekend job) and after that it started

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

Sounds like the malady may be an allergic reaction to something that is toxic to the liver/kidneys AND/OR a bacteria_fungus i.e. ringworm and/or yeast infection but it's hard to tell without seeing and learning the details about what one has been eating breathing and applying to the skin. SEE <> https://health.google.com/health/ref/Ringworm <> Monistat 7 will likely kill any fungus in a few days and better micro-nutrition will keep it killed and will also strengthen your liver lymph and kidney systems to handle allergic reactions with less suffering in the future.

IF you think it may be an allergic reaction - although it may be a difficult process - try to identify the triggers from cosmetics meds nuts milk grains other-foods chlorine-water-in-showers etcetera by discontinuing them until the symptoms stop and then beginning them again to see how the body reacts. If you are like me you may start to see allergies to many things because the root problem for me was a severely weakened liver from too many nutritional supplements that were toxic and I never knew it until it was almost too late.

After several months of pruritus Urticaria that began during the colder months of November inside a gas heated low humidity home, I have identified enough of my own triggers to allow my legs to heal with only a super-minimal amount of coconut cream and water rubbed on my skin and a minimal number of full body showers.

After several applications my lymph glands have become severely allergic to petrolatum products that are similar to Vaseline Petroleum Jelly, and common sense has now taught me that any petroleum products should always become toxic to anyone’s kidney and liver with repeated applications. I had flare-ups immediately after I had applied organic olive oil so I eventually changed to minimal amounts of coconut oil after I had used a minimal amount of a petrolatum steroid for a few days to allow my legs to heal up. I also have flareups when I eat over 150 calories of nuts and/or milk fats and/or oils, but these usually flare up about three hours after eating them, but the olive oil always took about five to thirty minutes to begin itching.

Skin diseases can always return again and again and again and can get much much worse over time if they are not resolved. Soo after reading your symptoms I would strongly encourage you to seek out a 'good' doctor or a ‘good’ nurse and s/he will make a knowledgeable medical diagnosis and thoroughly explain the causes preventions and solutions much better than anyone on Yahoo_Answers could do without being able to see you personally.

Also, to know how difficult or easy it should be for a doctor to make a ‘good’ diagnosis - I encourage you to also become a ‘good’ medical diagnostician from your doctor’s advice and your own research through Yahoo_Answers and via browser searches.

PS - IF you are interested, I feel I have become a quasi-expert on rashes and pruritus itching after many years of off and on flare ups due to my own nutritionally related asthma and gallbladder disease that ‘continued’ to become heart disease and T2 diabetes and then non-alcoholic fatty liver disease with either PBC or PSC. So you are not alone. Many many people suffer from pruritus and I have learned very late in my own disease(s) that when it is nutritionally related most doctors do not tell their patients that inadequate micro-nutrition absorption in the gut and liver ‘might’ be the root cause and the best solution, and is also the most likely cause to the pruritus and liver diseases that are currently overwhelming our American culture. So to do my part to make a difference in the world I now take a little time each week to help others understand why better micro-nutrition absorption in the gut is so important, and I have posted much of my own story via the link at: <> http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091025223942AAni6lC <>. I hope you will have learned something today from my own mistakes and would not duplicate them – please pass on what you will learn from your own malady to your family friends neighbors and acquaintances. 12. QUESTION:
Please tell me what's wrong with me! Bizarre health symptoms?
I've been suffering from a range of odd symptoms for a while now. From the beginning of Feb. 2009 till now. I'm desperately seeking relief from these symptoms.

    A little about me: I'm 22, 5'0, 155 pounds

I have: OCD (on 50mg of Zoloft) and PCOS (on 100 mg of metformin)

    My SYMPTOMS:
    - Hands: Red, swollen, itchy, painful with stiff fingers (Sometimes
I notice my hands are stiff in the morning even without the rest
    of the other symptoms)
    - Scalp: Itchy, slightly red, large bumps all over my head. Hives
    maybe?
    - Lips: Swelling of the lip, usually uneven so that only part of my
    lip is swollen
    - Feet: usually really itchy around the hair follicles on my big toes
but occasionally elsewhere on my feet. They also get warm and
    slightly red.

Other possibly relevant information: According to my BMI i'm overweight but you wouldn't think it looking at me. I've got a lot of muscle mass and most of my fat is concentrated in my stomach (i think this is because of the PCOS and my insulin resistance). However, for the past 4 years I've hardly been eating healthy since I've been a college student living away from home which hasn't helped my weight. I'm at the heaviest point i've ever been in my life and am desperately trying to lose weight.

I've seen a doctor at my school's student health facility and they've run a bunch of blood tests on me, all of which came out normal (triglycerides, thyroids, HDL, LDLs, things like that). They've assumed its an allergic reaction to something but I really doubt it because the onset of my symptoms are really random and sporadic. There is no discernible pattern of things i've touched or eaten.

Please help me! I've researched lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme Disease and a bunch of other things, none of which seem to fit me exactly. I'm not even sure if my symptoms are all related, but I really need to find some relief. This is taking over my life! The symptoms went from occurring every once in a while (in feb.) to every couple of days now.

    Please help, I beg you.
I forgot to add, the first time this happened, I was in Vietnam on vacation. I had been there for about a month at that point.

Plus, i used to be on 250 mg of zoloft but I am trying to get off the medicine. I'm down to my last 50 mg a day.

Thanks for all the responses so far!

    • ANSWER:
Ouch! This definitely sounds like an allergy. I would suspect many foods and medicine at first, because it is possible that one could develop an allergy later in life. I myself have become mysteriously and mildly allergic to dairy, after 24 years of drinking milk without issue.

First off, you might want to see what happened in February that changed everything. New prescription? Switch to a different brand of healthy food (yogurt, milk, cheeses, peanut butter, eggs, etc)? Did you switch laundry detergent? Is there a new kind of plant you are being exposed to (sounds like poison ivy maybe)? Is there a smoker in your home or are you smoking? Any of these items could be the culprit.

Good luck, and try calamine lotion, it might help.

  13. QUESTION:
Why do people react so differently to bee stings?
I got stung by a yellow jacket on my toe yesterday, and my whole foot is swollen, red, itchy, and extremely painful (enough so that I took vicodin), and i know it will be for a few days.

How come some people can get stung by the same type of bee, though, and have no problems, etc.?

Is it just because some people are more sensitive to bee venom?
=) Vicodin is a prescription pain medicine.

I hate bees; my foot looks like a pink marshmallow!

    • ANSWER:
Ouch =( Hope your foot is better soon!!

I think it's because people are allergic/intolerant to stings and some people aren't. Just as some people can eat nuts, dairy products etc without a problem and for others it could be fatal. It's all part of how our body works - I don't know what causes allergies, but some people are allergic to things others aren't, and bee stings are one of them. Looks like you're allergic to them =(. I don't know what Vicoden is, but I'm assuming it's an antihistamine of sorts? If it hasn't started improving within a day or so I think it's a good idea to go to the doctors.

  15. QUESTION:
What could these painful joints result from?
I had a low grade fever last week and this weekend, not surpassing 101.3 and I had nausea up until two days ago (Sunday) and I had thrown up on Friday and had a lot of bad gas caught in my stomach. On Sunday I had to go to urgent care because my doctor wasn't open and my fingers and toes were swollen and were itchy in stages, and some hives would pop up, then go away, etc. They drew blood and my platelet levels and white blood cells were fine, and they were shipping it out to the hospital to test it to make sure my liver and kidney function , etc was okay. We haven't gotten those results back yet (we should later today) but now I'm having a new problem that I wasn't having when I went to urgent care. They gave me medicine so I didn't swell anymore or itch but now yesterday my joints started hurting. They felt like someone had taken them apart and put them back together wrong. It was mostly my ankles, wrists, and one of my knees, but has progressed to my shoulder as well and some of my toes...also, I don't know if I'm being paranoid but when I stretch my jaw big it seems to hurt on the right side, and my neck seems like it's gonna start doing the same thing, but I have an anxiety disorder and worry bout everything so I'm not sure...I'm only 14, and I probably will go to the doctor later today...but this is painful and makes everything hard to do...thanks for any help.

  18. QUESTION:
What Could Be Wrong with My Toes?
I am a seventeen-year-old girl. For the past maybe three years I have been having a recurring problem with my toes. Everyone few days to months (usually two or three at the most), they start to become itchy, slightly swollen, a bit discoloured (pink-red and a little but of a dark-ish grey cover that is mostly on my big toes), and they become very sensitive to pain. Even lightly scratching one of my toes can be quite painful. The symptoms usually start on my right foot and then spread to my left foot. Recently, when the symptoms start to appear, they even spread to the area on my foot above my toes in little splotches. My toes and the areas where it started to appear partway up my foot have left the spots affected discoloured pink-red, and pink-red with a grey-ish cover on my two big toes. It also leaves dead skin on some of the spots. The symptoms on my toes only appear on top and on the bottom of my toes, not in between them.

If it matters, a bit less than a year ago I once experienced spams in my toes, feet, and legs, starting in my right foot, then my right calf, and then spread to my left foot then left calf. I had just been walking with my mom and the spams starting coming and going for no reason. I had not suffered any leg injuries or anything. I went to the emergency room to get it checked out but the doctor said he couldn't find any reason, and to just come back if it happened again. It hasn't happened since but I don't know if it could be connected to some other problem.
I avoid scratching, and I never go barefoot in locker rooms or anything. The only place I go barefoot is in my house. My dad and brother never report problems, but my mom sometimes says she gets athlete's foot, though I think she's probably confusing it with something else. She always thinks something like a cut or some other thing on her toe, or an occasionally itchy nose as some other problem that to other people is obviously not it. The symptoms also occur when I haven't gone anywhere other than my house without shoes on for weeks.

I don't play any sports, but I do attend a fitness class five times weekly. I haven't gotten any injuries, though.
I really doubt I would be getting athlete's foot every few days to two or three months for three years.

  19. QUESTION:
How long should effects from a bee sting last?
I stepped on a bee a week ago on Sunday. The stinger was pulled out and that night my toe got a little swollen. During the week, it got really itchy, but the swelling subsided slightly. Then it got red on the top of my toe (the sting was on the underside) in a weird shape that looked like a birthmark. Now that it's a week later, the swelling has increased again to where it's a little painful to wear my normal work shoes.

Is it typical for bee stings to last this long and for the swelling to go up again?

    • ANSWER:
No thats not right. I got stung by a bee and the effects lasted for like 5 to 15 minutes. My toe was a little puffy but it stopped hurting on the same day.I think that you are having an allergic reaction. You could be allergic to bees. If it keeps hurting get it checked out by the doc.

  20. QUESTION:

    Need help diagnosing...vasculitis or chilblains?
I have been to the doc and had him stumped! Two weeks ago my second toe swelled up, skin shiny and dark red, hot to the touch. It went through a series of changes over the last two weeks...painful, hot, itchy, etc. One week ago several red spots occured on the bottom of three of my toes (including the swollen one). They are all fading, but still a mystery. The doc tested me for a plethera of things and all came back negative. In our family we have a history of Lupus, etc. I am positive for the Epstein-Barr Virus...I am tired, no energy, aching joints...

Athlete's foot or an allergic reaction?
A couple nights ago I was sitting outside and my toes started itching, which I assumed were mosquito bites because I was wearing sandals and there were a lot out. Anyways, I was stupid and itched the toes and the itching spread to the top of my foot and of course I itched that too. Now I have an itchy, swollen, and slightly painful foot. Its not really dry which makes me think it wouldn't be athlete's foot. I'm just trying to self-diagnose before I run to the doctor because of a mosquito bite. Any ideas?
It is smooth except for a few broken spots from scratching. My husband made me soak them in salty/soapy water last night and it helped a little but they're still pretty darn itchy! lol

    help please?
I have a blister on my pinky toe. I don't know where I got it from. It is itchy, painful, red, swollen, and when I walk it hurts. Does anyone know what it is and what I can do about it?

    • ANSWER:
      Blister Care
If you get a blister, you'll want to relieve your pain, keep the blister from enlarging, and avoid infection. Signs of infection include pus draining from the blister, very red or warm skin around the blister, and red streaks leading away from the blister. Small, intact blisters that don't cause discomfort usually need no treatment. The best protection against infection is a blister's own skin. Larger or painful blisters that are intact should be drained without removing the roof. First clean the blister with rubbing alcohol or antibiotic soap and water. Then heat a straight pin or safety pin over a flame until the pin glows red, and allow it to cool before puncturing a small hole at the edge of the blister. Drain the fluid with gentle pressure, then apply an antibiotic ointment such as bacitracin with polymyxin B (double antibiotic ointment) or bacitracin alone. Avoid ointments that contain neomycin because they are more likely to cause an allergic reaction. Finally, cover the blister with a bandage. Change the dressing daily.

  25. QUESTION:
    Mysterious medical problem?
I have this really strange problem. I've seen a few different excellent doctors about it and I know that I should definitely take their word for it but I just wanted to see if anyone out there has any clues, similar cases... just a fresh opinion. Nobody really knows what this is. My doctors passed it off as just a developmental thing.

In the winter, my fingers and sometimes my toes get really really itchy and swollen. Sometimes the joints are painful. We've considered arthritis, but tests all came back normal. Urine samples, blood samples- all normal. It never happens in the summer, only in the middle of the winter when I'm stressed out, too, I guess by highschool homework. So stress has been considered too.

It only happens to a couple fingers: my left pinkie, my right first finger & middle finger, sometimes my thumbs. Occasionally big toe. I often have to apply pain relieving medication to the joints, and soak them in hot/ cold water/ ice/ warm and cold cloths. Sometimes they prevent sleep... SO ITCHY!

Are there any ideas? Even tentative help is appreciated. Thanks.
Oh also, just wanted to mention that even after this question gets "resolved", please continue posting because we probably won't have gotten an answer in a week. :)

  26. QUESTION:
Am I having an allergic reaction to spider bites, or what?
almost a week ago, i noticed this slightly painful blister-like swelling on my toe... it hurt and itched a bit... now, several days later, it's gotten quite a bit larger, and i have another on a toe right next to it. now, my first bump is purple. it's slightly painful, but it's more itchy than painful now. there's no puss or anything, and i don't think the spider was extremely poisonous (recluse or black widow) because i'm not having any other symptoms and my toes aren't rotting ;]
anyway, besides that, the tips of three of my toes are getting this tingly feeling, like they're falling asleep, and it's painful besides that. am i having an allergic reaction to a spider bite (or a few spider bites)? what else could it be?

    • ANSWER:

  29. QUESTION:
Really painful foot - could it be broken? or just bruised?
I kicked my desk really hard last night and now I have a huge bruise across the top of my foot (right at the base of all my toes) It is not really swollen that I can tell but I can barely put a shoe on and it hurts to put weight on my foot. I also can't bend my toes without pain. The bruise is also super itchy,

I generally have a high pain tolerance and I broke my foot this summer (the other one) and walked on it for a month before getting x-rays. I pretty much screwed that foot up for life and I don't want that to happen to this foot too. Is it really possible that I could have broken something by just kicking a desk though? What should I do about it?
the pain is not in my toes though - the reason I cannot bend them without pain is because it sends shooting pain across the top of my foot

Wasp sting RE-swells after a few days?
A few days ago, in Greece, I stepped a bug. I didn't see it (so it could have been something else, technically) but me and my family were pretty sure it was one of those big fat Greek wasps. Either way the bug came off worse, but I still got a nasty sting in my second toe. I had all the normal reactions, it was painful and swelled up, and we treated it with some after sting stuff which helped it a bit. It healed up okay, my foot was a bit puffy and sore the next day, but after a couple of days was totally fine. But I woke up just now and my toe has swollen up, it's gone numb and really itchy, and I can't move it. I understand it's normal for things to sometimes heal slowly, but it was fine and then it came swelled up again. Is this normal?
Can't you see the stinger though? 'Cause I can't see anything in my toe, but that would make sense, thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
That has happened to me before, and the reason for mine was because the stinger was still stuck in my skin. I did a little research and found out that copper helps remove the stinger. try taping a penny to your toe, that should help :) Good luck.

  31. QUESTION:
    healing from arthroscopic ankle surgery?
i got my surgery last thursday (it's been one week) and i got the bandages off around noon on sunday & had band-aids placed over the 2 incision sites - i had torn the cartilage (very badly) and it needed to be reattached - he said he used a laser to "glue" it back together, but i assume he means he pretty much soldered it
at first it was very swollen, painful, and started changing colors but i figured it was normal & put ice on it/kept it elevated, but didn't worry too much
the swelling has gone down a bit but i've noticed that the top of my foot is numb (i can feel pressure but nothing touching the skin) & i've had random toes and spots on my foot get that "pins and needles" feeling that sometimes lasts a few seconds to a few minutes - could this be nerve damage due to the surgery or is it normal?
i do have allergies to topical things, and the band-aids seem to be making me a bit itchy - can i leave them off for a little while? is it ok to expose the still sutured incisions to air for a little while if i don't let them touch anything?
when pulling the band-aid off today (i'm supposed to change them after my daily shower) it sent a pain shooting into my toes that hasn't gone away in the last 25 minutes or so - it really hurts

i called my dr tuesday but he was in surgery - i told his nurse what was going on & she told be about 8 times that i should start keeping it elevated and putting ice on it - she didn't seem to hear me every time i responded by saying that's exactly what i am doing
the dr was in surgery & she said she'd let him know but i was sleeping the next morning when he did call back - he left a message that made it sound like he was just checking on me on his own and hadn't heard that i called... i don't want to keep calling 'cause i don't want to be a pain if this is all normal - but it doesn't seem normal to me

    anyone know?

    Really bad infection?
I'm a 17 year old male. two days ago my left foot gradually swelled over a ~ 5 hour period. It's itchy and painful to touch/walk on. i'm taking perscribed antihistemines for it. I've notices that the pain is really strong when i stimulate circulation to my foot i.e stand up but when im lying down it's not so bad. it's getting worse and got to the point where i can feel numbness in my toes and the swelling is spreading up the foot. I'm feverish in the evenings (shivering a LOT). im getting small but sharp electric shocks from my heart ( this may be further caused by my heart weakness diagnosed when i was 12. a couple of minutes ago i've noticed that the skin under my fingernails turned purple so i decided to bathe my feet in hot water which apparently helped my fingernails. I've notices a lot of fruitflies in my room lately (if that's is relevant). what is wrong, please help!

  37. QUESTION:
    Am I allergic to bandaids?
When ever I put them on my fingers or toes (I never use them anywhere else.) the skin beneath it either becomes very white and swells up forming ridges which are painful to try to separate or touch (this happens more often) and sometimes it becomes red and extremely itchy and painful to the touch.
I change the bandage a couple times during the day or at least once a day.. I also try to give it a chance to air out and such at night. However by the time it's time to retire the bandage, the skin underneath the bandaid becomes extremely dry and starts cracking and peeling. (Just happened to me in the last couple of the days and now I'm trying to fix this..)

I asked my friend if this was normal and she called me an idiot and said it happens to everyone .. but it seems impossible that everyone gets this pain when using a bandaid.

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like you're having an allergic reaction to the band aid. That's what happens to my grandson and we can no longer put a band aid on him.

  38. QUESTION:
Bee Sting on toe causes entire foot to swell quite a bit.. anything I can do? How long will it last?
    Hello,
Well, yesterday about 24 hours from now I was stung by a bee in between my 2 smallest toes, I accidentally stood on it, I got the stinger out by rubbing it out as soon as I could, and I put a cold pack on it for 5 minutes or so until it stopped hurting.. then today, my entire foot is swollen (I can't fit it inside a shoe).. and aprox 3/4 of it is red/orange. It's not actually painful, it's just difficult to walk and when I do walk or touch it at all it becomes really itchy.. I've taken an antihistamine but I'm wondering is there anything else I can do to speed things up and make it so I can walk normally again? How long does it usually last until it returns to normal enough that I can wear shoes?

    • ANSWER:
This is, sometimes, a normal reaction to being stung and there really isn't anything you can do to speed up your recovery time of about a week. Keep an eye on this to be sure you don't have an infection - this would show itself as red streaks going up your lower leg and you would develop a fever. Take a Benadryl as often as the directions say you can (schedule one for just before you go to bed) and, every 4 hours, take an ibuprofen - don't take aspirin as it's used to reduce fever.
Hope you feel better soon (bee-killer!).

  39. QUESTION:
I don't know what is causing me to break out in welts, even doctors don't seem to know.?
    For the past year I have been breaking out with a strange rash. I’ve had it happen about 10 different times. It starts as a rash that spreads and then turns into welts. My eyes swell and my feet even get the rash. Here are some other attributes that I've noticed every time it happens;

angioedema (swelling) of the eye, hands and feet
    itchy eyes
red welts on my stomach, back, between my fingers, toes and other folds of my body such as in the bend of my arm and even along my neck
    extremely itchy and painful
has lasted for up to 4 hours, then has been treated with Benadryl or Hydrortisone, sometimes has come back after the medication has worn off.
has happened under stressful situations (quitting smoking, talking about the death of my mother, and even during finals at school), when using a different soap (but continued after washing with the former soap), has happened when there was heavy rain/ heavy humidity.
gets worse when scratching or when washed with warm water
    is not contagious

I have talked to three different doctors. None of them have told me what has caused it. Each one of them has treated it with high doses of Benadryl. Lately, however, I’ve been using Hydrocortisone to relive it temporarily so I don’t become drowsy. The rash does come back after the Hydrocortisone wears off, though.. If anyone else has something similar and has found ways of treating this please let me know….
    Thank you for your time.

  40. QUESTION:
no one knows what's wrong with me?
i'm extremely tired, weak, in pain all over, itchy, suddenly gain and lose weight (painful to touch when gained in swollen areas which include the abdomen, legs, and face, but never arms, hands, or back), fingers and toes turn blue, rapid heart rate and sweating frequently after eating, headaches, loud ringing in ears, confusion, chest pains, and extreme thirst. i was diagnosed with RND (reflex neurovascular dystrophy) but am thinking something is causing that as well.

    • ANSWER:
I would say hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland). Raynaud's Phenomenen has also been linked to hyperthyroidism. Raynaud's Phenomenen causes fingers and toes to turn blue due to lack of oxygen. Recommended is a TSH test, free T3, free T4 and thyroid antibodies test. TSH is not accurate enough for a true diagnosis of hyperthryoidism.

    weird bruising?
recently i sprained my ankle playing hoops. it swelled up real good and there was bruising around the ankle where the injury occurred.
about a week later my toes started to get black and blue. i have sprained my ankle before and this has never happened.
now it has been about two weeks and i just noticed that my calf is now black and blue! its so weird!
also the swelling has gone down almost all the way, and its not that painful to walk on anymore. however it is kinda hot and itchy at times.
    Can anyone share some insight?
I think I should visit a doctor, but which one should I go to? Podiatrist? Skin Doctor?
Also I have a weird kinda athletes foot thing going on but I know that its not a fungus, because the doctor ruled that out last time i visited. not sure it is related.
Oh and my lymph nodes are swollen.

  43. QUESTION:
What kind of bug bite is this... could it carry disease?
For the past few weeks, I've been finding these gross bites on my arms and legs. They only come one at a time, and take 7-10 days to fade (though none of them are gone completely). They swell bigger than any mosquito bite I've ever seen, a hard, raised area about 6-7 cm in diameter. I had one on the back of my hand, and the red, swollen area crept up 2 of my fingers. It feels hot to the touch, and is very itchy. I now have one on my second toe, and it hurts to walk because it's so swollen that bending the joint is painful.

People have suggested spider bites, which it very well may be. However, I've been finding roaches in my apartment lately, including one in my bed this morning (disgusting!). My home is pretty clean, and I live in a decent building in Manhattan, but roaches are just everywhere!

My concern is that these are roach bites, or some other bug that could carry disease. Should I just keep treating the symptoms (hydrocortisone cream), or should I be doing something else?

  44. QUESTION:
Problems with one foot - it just keeps ITCHING?
I posted this question once, but I'm going to post again because I didn't get much help on the subject.

Well, one of my feet is really really itchy. To the point where it actually burns and is severely uncomfortable. It only starts doing this when I'm laying in bed trying to sleep. I thought it might have been athletes foot, so I started using some of my husbands AF stuff. It didn't help much--but it made the first few nights a little more bearable. Now it's not working and I rarely get any sleep at night.

I had a tick in between my toes a few years ago and ever since then, this particular foot has been doing stuff like this on a yearly basis almost. It's swollen, looks sort of purple-ish. It only looks like that in the area where I had the tick at. I drink plenty of water, so I don't understand why this is so incredibly painful. Any help?

    • ANSWER:
There is something called Burning Foot Syndrome. The most common symptoms are burning, stinging, redness and swelling. Most times, the only symptoms present are burning and stinging feet. It is something that should definitely be checked by a doctor. Read the information at this site.

  45. QUESTION:
Can insect allergies cause cold-like symptoms?
A few days ago, my toe was bitten by an unidentified insect. Since I didn't actually feel the bite itself, I'm assuming it was just an ant. As I usually do, my foot completely swelled up around the bite for about three days, making it painful to walk on and rather itchy. I applied topical Benadryl to the bite and the swollen area around it and by now, the swelling is almost completely gone. However, I have developed a sore throat, cough, and a runny nose, and I feel fatigued throughout the day. Do I have a cold or is this probably another allergic reaction to the bite in addition to the swelling?

    • ANSWER:
yes insect allergies can commonly cause cold-like symptoms. that's because an allergy happens when you body reacts bad to a small amount of an unwelcome ingredient, so your body try to make this ingredient to go out of it, in this period of time you can get fever and all the symptoms you say. it's like your body fights against a small infection.

I should mention that about three years ago, I got chilblain and what the doctor said was athlete's foot at the same time. I treated it, but after that is when this recurring problem with my toes started.
I eat fish and poultry but no mammals or any other type of animal that is not fish or poultry. I don't have a diet that varies too much.
I try to eat healthily and usually aim at getting the right amounts of different food groups, but I probably do lack some things because of my eating habits. I do get enough dairy, though.
The spams only happened that one time. It has never happened since.
The swelling is't severe. It mostly affects my big toes and a bit on the top of my others toes. It is noticeable but nothing too terrible.
It happens all throughout the year. I live in British Columbia, Canada, and though it does get cold and wet often, my feet don't often get damp, thougy I have to say that I don't wear shoes that keep my feet warm when outside.

I am going to get it checked out by a doctor, but I just want some ideas.

Definitely get your doctor to take a look at it.

Swollen Painful Toes

At one point or another, we've all had them: swollen, irritated, enlarged, inflamed or painful taste buds. No matter how you describe them, you've probably wondered if you should be alarmed and rush off to the doctor. Don't worry though; most often it's a problem with easy solutions.

The most common cause of swollen taste buds is irritation - usually from something that we ate. Salty food is one culprit. Although we tend to like salty food, our taste buds really don't. Salt and vinegar potato chips are especially hard on taste buds. One of the reasons salt is bad for the tongue is that salt will draw out the natural moisture of the tongue and the crystal structure of it is abrasive as well.

If you love spicy foods, you'll want to be very careful about eating them too much. The active ingredient in them (capsaicin) is also an irritant. In fact, it is so irritating to taste buds, that years of exposure to it will cause damage to the taste buds, making it harder and harder to taste all your food. Other examples of foods that irritate the tongue include lemons, grapefruit, ginger, mustards, horseradish, and even cinnamon.

The first thing to do if you notice that these foods cause swollen taste buds is to stop eating them. Give your taste buds a week or so to recover and don't aggravate the problem by eating a different type of food irritant than the one that caused the problem in the first place.

Swollen Painful Testicle Treatment

Chlamydia trachomatis infection can be treated effectively with antibiotics once it is detected.

Doxycycline is an antibacterial derived from tetracycline commonly used to treat chlamydia and a variety of bacterial infections. For instance it is used to treat chronic prostatitis, sinusitis, syphilis, chlamydia, pelvic inflammatory disease, acne, rosacea, and rickettsial infections. It works by preventing the growth and spread of bacteria.

Chlamydia, also called as Bedsonia or Miyagawanell can occur due to various bacteria of the genus Chlamydia. Several species cause common infections in humans and animals, including neonatal conjunctivitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, pharyngitis, and sexually transmitted infections of the pelvis and urethra. About half of the cases of nongonococcal urethritis are due to chlamydia. There are three species of Chlamydia and all of them are pathogenic to humans. Chlamydia trachoma is found only in humans. It is a major infectious cause of human genital and eye disease. Chlamydia conjunctivitis or trachoma is a common cause of blindness worldwide. Chlamydophila pneumoniae is a species of chlamydophila bacteria that infects humans and is a major cause of pneumonia.

  3. QUESTION:
Severe Pain In Testicle Won't Go Away!?
Okay, so about a month and a half ago I presented at the emergency department with severe pain in my right testicle, so they checked it out to make sure it wasn't a testicular torsion and fortunately it wasn't. I had a few tests done, had an ultrasound done etc and they did find a cyst on top of my right testicle, I have known its been there since I was about 12 and it hasn't grown and the urologist didn't think it was the cause of the problem. I was sent home with a prescription for ciprofloxacin 500mg and some panadeine forte. I went back the next day due to the pain not going away, I had more tests done and had my blood and urine test come back, turns out I had tested positive for chlamydia so I was put on azithromycin and doxycycline. Oh, and by this point they also believed it to be epididymitis.

So I was sent home with those two antibiotics and endone. I finished the treatment of both of the antibiotics and was still in pain, no change at all. The endone took some of the pain away but not all of it. So I went to see my gp and he gave me another script for azithromycin and some other antibiotic & oxynorm. Again, finished the antibiotics and was still in pain!! Recently I have had another ultrasound done and everything appears normal. No other causes to rule out what's going on in my blood and urine. Upon examination, everything seems normal as well apart from the cyst which isn't believed to be the cause of the problem. So, now it's been well over a month and the pain is still there, feels as if it is increasing at some times during the day. I was put up to 20mg of oxynorm and 2mg of hydromorphone 3 times a day with both and that was working well for the pain & now my doctor has taken me off them and I'm stuck with tramadol. I'm straight back to how I was in the beginning, cannot walk properly, can't sleep and don't feel like eating. Feeling extremely depressed and stressed from the pain.

Any opinions on what could be the cause of this? Could it be chronic epididymitis? I don't know what's going on, nobody can find the reason why it is so painful because my right testicle is not showing any symptoms such as swelling etc. I feel like I can't take it anymore, I'm bed ridden most of the day, taking amitriptyline as well for the pain and that makes me sleep 12-13 hours. Please help!!! I am coming to the point where I'm going to demand the removal of my testicle if things do not change.

  5. QUESTION:
    HELP....Please help me....?
I am 17, confused about life, at least at this point in time. I am fearful because of a situation that ensued because I went against my own personal beliefs and religious beliefs. I am now suffering, mentally and physically and scared that it may get worse. Listen to my story...

*2008 - Early in the year, I got into a car accident, I may have died considering I was the passenger and was going at a high speed in a mustang.

Later that year I got robbed, two guys threatened to kill me etc. I got through it. Both these experiences gave me a chance to examine my life, I changed my ways for the better: I made a moral code fr myself, started to do more good and observe as well as steer the actions of others in the direction of good, I started to get into Buddhism because of my own personal thoughts on God, believing I did not need any structured religion to tell me how to believe in my creator. Aside from this stuff, this is where it began. My ex girlfriend would occasionally call me to have sex and I usually would because I trusted her, especially since she was my first, both in losing my virginity and in love. Now recently we hooked up, if it matters she was at the end of her period, and we had sex, during which the condom popped but I promptly pulled out. Now, about 25-30 days later I start getting symptoms of an STI, at first I thought it was a Urinary Tract infection because of burning and frequent urination, then puss started materializing and my testicles started swelling and I came to the conclusion that it was clamidia , I am going for treatment tomorrow but along with that I am fearful that I may have also contracted AIDs, especially since her being infected was something she kept from me, if that is the case anyway. I'm starting to slip back into a depression that came on a few years ago because of my fearfulness of death, it seems amplified by my own fears now. I am especially saddened because I finally met this girl who seems so perfect for me to spend my life with, we haven't had sex yet but I won't know how to tell her that I had clamidia after I get it treated and not telling her is something is purely wrong in all ways, but if things don't go right then I am as good as dead and won't be able to tell her period. I broke my own moral of being able to think and resist my sexual desires which I now look back upon and feel even worse about because it is also in Buddhist teaching that when one desires something, there is suffering. I am scared, and feel as if I am crying blood from my eyes as I write the painful entry. Being my age and being the thinker I am often plagues me because I know too much about our world, our inevitable end, society, etc but now my thoughts have no way to sum things up because they confuse me so much. I've gone to a Catholic school all my life and in a situation like this I would usually turn to God but I am lost, I am alone. I can't think straight, I don't know how to talk to God, I am confused, I feel alone, I need to feel better and meditation can not console me. I don't want to die; I want life, I want to grow old and become a great man, I do not want to get stricken down because of a stupid mistake, I want to have children and live my life, but if I have more than just clamidia what is my purpose in living, why should I suffer and deal with a life bound to end sooner than it should. Please, if anyone can feel my pain, the loneliness of my situation and the emptiness of my being please offer me up your wisdom. Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, Agnostics, whoever, anyone of any background please, please help me. I don't know where to turn, I am lost...help me find my way back to life, I implore you, my fellow man, help me I beg you.
I've read some of your answers, thank you, I actually started to cry reading one. As far as some of you telling me to accept God, how can I? In my mind I am fearful, my knowledge of death, spirits, etc prevents my from opening up. I am afraid to hear God, what if I hear a voice speaking with me and it is not God? What if it is the devil, a dead person, my own mind playing tricks on me, how can I overcome this, why won't God deliver Himself to me, why can't Jesus appear to me, why can I not understand you all, you who have easily seen our God, why am I fearful when you are courageous, why do I toil while the warmth of His love embraces you, am I not worthy of that wisdom, that knowledge?

Swollen Painful Testicles Children

There is nothing more emba 00004000 rrassing than having an itch on the vagina when out socializing. It's funny if you think about it, if an itch is on the end of your nose, your head or ear you scratch it regardless of who stands before you, but when it's round the crotch/anus then the way we get relief is not so openly done. Could this have something to do with why the genitals are called the privates, hence the secrecy between fingers meeting up with the itchy vagina? Okay it doesn't look nice to scrawb at your bits when in the company of people, but an itch is an itch and made for scratching. And another thing is, what must people think for why you scratch i.e. pubic lice (crabs) or maybe VD might even cross their mind. Now you can always retreat around the corner out of sight to scratch, or find the root cause for your itchy vagina and cure it. There are many reasons accountable for a vaginal itch or anus one. If you itch because you have a vaginal rash then this is easily treated and rid using home treatments, however and more often than not an itchy vagina comes about from vaginal infections.

One infection strongly connected for causing an itch is vaginal thrush. As with specific infections they can also affect the vaginal opening and surrounding skin along with pain. Bear in mind that not all women get the symptoms associated with infection but if they do, the way they cope and respond to vaginal treatments can differ greatly. There are 3 common infections we address on a regular basis and the reason why is, because it is normally one of them that is responsible for a vaginal itch.

If you experience vulval discomfort then we look towards the thrush infection, bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas vaginalis and herpes simplex.

Thrush

Thrush as we are aware is caused by a fungal organism called Candida albicans which lives in our bodies. Candida albicans grow and mass around the genitals which bring on thrush symptoms. Clarified symptoms are a white, thick, yeasty smelling vaginal discharge, and a very itchy sore and red vulval region. Sometimes the rectum (anal) opening can also become painfully itchy. Most Vaginal infections excluding some STDs are treated with antifungal drugs, vaginal creams, and vaginal pessaries. Creams and pessaries which need inserting inside the vagina can however cause burning and skin irritation similar to the thrush infection. Because of this confusion comes to the fore over whether it 's the side effects of the treatment or the symptoms of the infection. Although vaginal treatments are deemed safe particular feminine products have to be ideal for you and the infection you suffer from. If vulval skin is itchy and sore then cream can help with easing discomfort. Some medications come in oral form. Personal preference will prevail for whatever treatment you use, however if it is not a 100% for clearing your infection then it is waste of time and money leaving you still infected. Temporary cures are not want you want you want rid and gone forever. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding consult with GP before using vaginal treatments.

  2. QUESTION:
How should I help with my husband's injury?
The other day, I was walking in the park with my husband at night. It was a beautiful night, and we were taking a stroll, to enjoy the scenery. When we were about to leave, two women stepped out from behind some bushes. The women were dressed like hookers(e.g. very revealing clothing). I suspect they were drug addicts, and they demanded that we gave them all our money.
They were unarmed, and hence my husband refused to give them anything. We tried to ignore and walk by them, but one of them screamed at us and started pulling my hair. When my husband stepped in, she gave him a hard kick between his legs, then they ran off. To make things worse, she was wearing boots.
I was stunned, and could do nothing but sit by him for about half an hour, until he could finally get up. Even then, he walked with a limp and I had to help him home. When we got home, he let me take a look. Both of his testicles were swollen and appeared red. I tried to massage them by gently kneading them but he told me it was very painful.
That night he refused to have any "activity" with me, and the next morning, he was still unable to walk properly because of the swelling. We have only been married for a few months, and are planning to have a child, and I am worried that this incident will affect our chances.
I asked him to go see a doctor, but he said it was alright and that it was just too embarrassing. I have never been in such a situation before. What should I, as his wife, do?

    • ANSWER:
I had a really bad wrestling injury in the same area. I had to go in for an ultrasound to make sure nothing was cracked in there. I cant say that he wont have any problems but I have a very beautiful 8 year old daughter!

Also he will want to ice those. Its freaking cold but it does help.

Massages are a bad idea but you were nice for trying! He will be a little bit better everyday. He may want to let you gently "take care of him" so he doesnt get blue balls tho cause that would make things more painful.

Good luck and I hope he has a speedy recovery.

4. QUESTION:
I have 3 issues not being treated by the doctors HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
I have a painful mass in my left testicle and went to the ER, and recently found out (by ultrasound) i also have varicocele issues in my right testicle. They sent me to go see a Urologist who did a physical examination and confirmed the mass and the Varicocele. He was concerned with the right sided Varicocele and sent me to get a CT scan. The machine shut down in the middle of the scan and they lost the data with contrast. They did another scan without contrast and found there were no tumors causing the right sided varicocele but I do have swollen lymph nodes in the groin and was told to go see a family doctor about that issue. I have been sent all over the place from one doctor to the next and none of them are treating the original issue of my left testicle being VERY painful. I was told I will just have to live with the pain, because I am too young to consider for surgery. I am almost 23 and already have a child who is turning 5 next month. I just need to know what to do in order to get my issue resolved and make this pain go away. I am to the point I just want to cut it out myself. (Not going to) Any ideas

Get copies of all your medical records and go see a new urologist-- not all are equal. A urologist treats this condition

Swollen Painful Testicle Symptoms

Want to make a grown man cry? All it takes is a poorly aimed softball or a close encounter with a foot. In fact, any kind of blow to the groin can bring even the toughest of tough guys to his knees. The pain is indescribable. Fortunately, it is also short-lived. It usually goes away in just a couple of minutes. But sometimes the testicles hurt without any apparent provocation. Perhaps the most serious cause of testicular pain is torsion. Torsion hurts so badly, that anyone who has it will head straight for an emergency room. And that is precisely what you should do. Less serious but more common than torsion is epididymitis. When you have his condition, the testicle may appears swollen and feel tender. Sometimes testicular pain is referred, meaning the problem lies elsewhere in your body. For example, a kidney stone or a pinched nerve in your lower back may cause your testicles to hurt. Here are some tips that you can consider to adopt for fast relief.

1. Consider Acupuncture

The thought of needles in the groin probably isn't very appealing. But acupuncture has proven to be very successful in treating testicular pain. Acupuncture reduces the stagnation that is causing your pain. To locate a qualified acupuncturist in your area, contact the physician referral service of your local hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Could I have Lymphoma? If not, what could be causing a painful swollen lymph node in my groin?
Yesterday I woke up and noticed that I had a PAINFUL swollen lymph node on the left side of my groin (where the inside of my left thigh meets my scrotum). I went to the Dr. yesterday afternoon. He did a blood test and called me today to say that my blood counts are normal. He also did a strept test (pretty unrelated b/c my wife/son have had strept this month) and that was normal.

    * My grandfather had lymphoma when he was around 50 years old. He said the only symptom he had was a swollen but PAINLESS lymph node in the same area.
    * I am 28 years old
    * 3 months ago I had serious abdominal surgery (removed part of my colon). After the surgery I had pain in my left testicle/groin area. I mentioned that to the surgeon and he said it was normal. The pain continued for a couple of months but over the past 3 weeks or so I feel like I stopped noticing the pain... until yesterday when I noticed the swollen lymph node.
    * The surgeon diagnosed me with severe Irritable Bowel Syndrome
    * I have not had fevers, weight loss, itchy skin, etc. (other symptoms of Lymphoma) and I only have the one swollen lymph node.

Based on this, what do you think could be the cause of the swelling/pain in my lymph node? Could it be due to my IBS or lingering effects from intestinal surgery 3 months ago? I hope it's not Lymphoma! I'm trying to keep my head up but it's hard not to worry. I know it's possible that it is Lymphoma, but since only have one swollen node and no other symptoms and a normal blood test, would you worry if you were me?

    • ANSWER:
I wouldn't be overly concerned, personally. Generally cancerous nodes/masses are not painful, and considering you've just noticed the swelling it is probably from something relatively harmless. There's been no evidence showing lymphoma to be hereditary, by the way.

Definitely keep an eye on it, if it doesn't go down in a week or two see your doctor again. If it's something you just can't get past, talk to your doctor about possibly having a biopsy done.

  2. QUESTION:
Painful "third testicle" after vasectomy... is this normal?
I had a vasectomy ten days ago and have been having one **** of a time ever since. First I was so swollen, bruised and sore, I couldn't move. Most of this was concentrated on the right side. On the fourth day of this I went back to the doctor, but he wasn't available, his physicians assistant saw me and determined that it was obvious I was experiencing more of these symptoms than normal, but I was otherwise fine and should continue icing and resting till I felt well enough.

On day eight I finally felt well enough to get off the couch. The swelling had gone down significantly, the bruising was fading and I felt the best I had in days. However I was still very sensitive - once again, on the right side - and had to be quite cautious about how I moved, sat, etc...

On day nine, I noticed there was a mysterious "third testicle" above my testicle on my right side. It was sensitive and I had to be extremely gentle. However, on day ten, the pain is getting worse the "third testicle" is even bigger and at this time I'm fearing what tomorrow will look like. However, everything else is doing well at this time. Swelling and bruising are almost non existent and other than this issue I'm feeling good.

So, what is this problem I seem to be experiencing and should I be worried/contacting my doctor about this. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
No problems with mine. You do not have a “third testicle”. Either you have a sloppy surgeon, or you just over exerted yourself (the latter is the more likely answer).

The “third testicle” is were some blood leaked and has pooled there in the tissue. It will go away.

It would not hurt to contact the doctor. He or she will prescribe an anti-inflamitory.

I had my vasectomy over 22 years ago. I have not even a scar.

  3. QUESTION:
Can you get so paranoid to give yourself STD symptoms?
Four months ago i had unprotected vaginal sex for 10 seconds. I got painful urination 10 days later after I found out I had a swollen testicle (got tested for gonorhea and chlamydia= both negative) and an itchy penis about 3 months later... I went to a doctor and he said these symptoms were like herpes but i didnt have any sores so I probably dont have it... So I was wondering if i could be so paranoid that I am giving myself these symptoms of itchy penis and painful urination?

    • ANSWER:
I can't say you don't have an STD but like you I am paranoid about STDs and it often makes me notice little things that I believe to be STD related. Your mind is a powerful powerful thing which can play tricks on you. You know when you have a sore arm or something and someone will kick you and say "haha not thinking about your arm anymore are you?" Try distracting yourself for a day and concentrating on other things. For example im soooo nervous about HPV that i noticed itch in my genitals and when i come on here and post answers i distract myself and notice I havent been itchy while sitting here. If you have moments such as those than its probably nothing but your worry because if it were an actual problem it would still be there when your distracted. I hope this makes sense.
To help ease your mind though, got for ALLL possible STD testing that means, blood work, urine tests, and visual examination.

ps. im also doing homework right now and its a health course and it says "The mind and body are snugly interwoven, and this connection affects you in more ways than you might be aware of" meaning you need to have a healthy outlook and worry free attitude in order to feel healthy. (ex. you worry about your genitals, youll notice a change in your genitals)

  4. QUESTION:
    Herpes? STDs?? Swollen Urethra?
Six months ago i had unprotected sex after the condom had broke. I got checked for all STD's (Herpes, HIV, Ghonnorea, Chlamydia, Trichomonas) throughout this time and even 6 months later and all the tests were negative. Also got checked for a UTI and this was negative. I have had itching of the penis for around 4.5 months, but it has been getting a little better as of late. The itching of the penis is on the inside, i can feel it on the inside. I also have had painful urination on and off for this time period.

At the beginning of this, I got a swollen testicle and kept pinching the tip of my penis and trying to look around for anything. Could this have caused a swollen urethra that won't heal. The symptoms happened about 1 month after the encounter.

I have visited several doctors and the only thing they came up with is that I should go for a cystoscopy. I have no lesions anywhere on my penis or anything.

I found out the girl has had sex with a total of nine people and has said that only one other person did she have unprotected sex with other than when my condom broke on accident. What are the chances she has herpes (1/5 men have and she has had sex with 9)? I was wondering if these are symptoms of herpes, even though I tested negative. I dont have any outbreaks or blisters. If anyone has had these symptoms before and knows what it is can you please help me.

    • ANSWER:
Dear Frank, you are stressing so much you are stressing ME out. If you tested negative for STDs then you do not have them. The only question for me is how did they test for Herpes? If they tested by a blood draw, then you do not have Herpes. A swab test can turn up negative unless you are in the midst of a flare. You have visited several doctors and they have advised you to have a cystoscopy. I would do this and see if there is something else going on. I would not be concerned with STDs. I have Herpes and after 10 years my husband got them from me. He had small blisters that were filled with fluid, broke and healed up. He had no painful urination, but had a sensitivity when touching the blisters.

It is good that you are concerned about your health and are aware of what can happen. Even using a condom is not a 100% guarantee...especially with Herpes.

The endone took some of the pain away but not all of it. So I went to see my gp and he gave me another script for azithromycin and some other antibiotic & oxynorm.

Herpes, Yeast Infection, STD, Dehydration of Penis?
Four months ago i had unprotected vaginal sex for 10 seconds. I got painful urination 10 days later as well as found out I had a swollen testicle (got tested for gonorhea and chlamydia= both negative). I started to have an itchy penis about 3 months later (but i also injured my lower back at the same time and doctor said this could cause nerve differences that can make you feel this way)... I also went to a doctor about urination and he said these symptoms were like herpes but i didnt have any sores so I probably dont have it... The tip of my penis is where the pain/itching is... i also pinch alot to try and see if there is anything there ... could this cause my symptoms because i swelled my own urethra? I was wondering if i could be so paranoid that I am giving myself these symptoms of itchy penis and painful urination, or do you think i could have herpes, a yeast infection, or any other STD?
I also read on some medical forums that it could be due to dehydration, and i drink less than 1/2 cup of water a day, so ive been drinking a lot of water and it makes me feel better, however, if i don't continue drinking throughout the day, the symptoms come back....
My dad is a doctor and he said dehydration could be a cause, but i havent told him about the sexual encounter, just wanted some opinions...

    • ANSWER:
      OK,
you need 8 medium sized glasses of water per day, more if you exercise. If you don't drink this amount and you drink lots of fizzy/soda/coffee etc you will produce very concentrated irritating urine, which can irritate. Dehydration is really punishing for the internal organs/brain/skin, the penis is the one complaining but its at the end of a complex system which needs water to function properly.

You may also have a slight yeast infection, are you cleaning it really properly, retracting foreskin and rinsing well, using a very gentle soapless cleanser. Also avoid non cotton briefs. Keep underwear meticulously clean, do not wear underwear more than once.

Use a cream such as canestan, if the symptoms persist after you have been drinking the required amount of water and keeping really clean for a few days. Oh yes and avoid alcohol, this is full of yeast and can also give you similar symptoms. Stop pinching and wash your hands before and after touching too.

Also have groin infection, known as jock itch, which is a sort of yeast but i dont think it can move to the penis

    • ANSWER:
That sounds like either a urinary tract infection or a yeast infection. My boyfriend had almost the same thing happen to him, but he had both testicles swollen up. He too was screened for chlamydia and gonorhea and both were negative. They told him to drink lots of water, cranberry juice, and eat cranberry pills. This helped a little, but not completely. You really have to continue to flush out the bladder once the infection sets it. Guys can get yeast infections too. It is rare, but it's possible. Its perfectly safe for a male to eat the yeast pills for maintaining a balance in women. My boyfriend ate the YZO pills 3 times a day, drank lots of water, cranberry juice, and ate cranberry pills. It went away in a week, but as soon as he stopped it started to come back. He had to do it for about 3 weeks straight before it wa actually gone. Good luck! He was miserable. I feel bad for you!

    • ANSWER:
I know how being paranoid and constant checking can influence the symptoms you are explaining. Herpes usually causes sores and if you had one in your urethra than it would sting EXTREMELY when you urinated. Sores on the outside would also be noticable because they work how a cold sore on your lips would. Bump, blister, open sore, scab, disappear. Spread like crazy, sting and itch.
Genital warts would appear as abnormal bumps on your genitals, if your experiencing these that have become new and arent going away than you should get checked. Some are itchy some aren't they are caused by HPV (which happens to be my scare) I'm terrified i may develop warts or cancer and not know and i check myself daily and checking has caused irritation and itching than if i leave it alone it goes away.
Go for all STD testing which includes, urine, swabs and blood tests. Also get a visual examination. If all these come back saying your okay, than your okay. Don't second guess the results of those because if everyone did that than there would be no point in testing. Testing is to rule out infection, if it says your fine.. your fine. Just make sure you get ALLLLLL testing done for ALLL STD's. If you realize that your still paranoid and can't stop checking, talk to your doctor about your obsessive compulsions with constant checking and worrying. Your unprotected sexual encounter has created a sense of regret and guilt in your mind that might be more related to your mental aspect rather than your physical. I too have now got to get help for my obsessive compulsive issue that has been brought on by guilt and regret. If you need any further information on STD's or mental thinking feel free to email me at macyloucks@yahoo.com.

  9. QUESTION:
is painful urination without an outbreak common for a initial infection?
ok, so 14 days ago I made out with and had oral sex, both gave and received from a guy I met. anyway the within 2 days I was having painful urination and my testicles were slightly red and tingly. it took me 5 days to be able to get off work and go to planned parenthood. unfortunately the only tests they offered to run was a urine test for chlaymedia, gonorrhea and HIV. they gave me zithromax for chlaymedia on the spot. I took it, and a day later I discovered I had some 2 year old amoxicillin, I took 3.5 grams of that because I read it would treat ghonorhhea. anyway the test results came back negative for both. after the tests I have started to notice a few more symptoms, I've had occasional anal itching (mild) and my testicles still itch (mildly) and are occasionally a little red through out. also my tonsils are swollen but that happens to me pretty frequently. my tongue is also tinted white when I wake up in the morning. the back of my mouth and tonsils are red and one morning I think I saw a white spot about half the size of a pea on one of the tonsils. I have noticed a slight fever but nothing particularly pronounced. anyway, since I don't have health insurance the testing I can receive for free is limited. yesterday I submitted a urine sample and swab of the penis opening for testing and am waiting to hear back. I am curious as to what the symptoms may point to. and if these would be consistant with something that is uncureable such as herpes hsv2. can anyone offer me any information?

The tip of my penis is where the pain/itching is... i also pinch alot to try and see if there is anything there ... could this cause my symptoms becuase i swelled my own urethra?

    • ANSWER:
It is probably best to ask the doc to check you for a yeast infection and request that he test you for herpes with the blood test. Better to be safe.

  11. QUESTION:
    Gonorrhea question?
I suspect my partner has gonorrhea - he has one swollen testicle - he said it feels like someone has a tight grip on it, feels more uncomfortable than painful, but he has no other symptoms. I have no symptoms. Is this something that can lay dormant before it produces any symptoms? We've been together for a year, and I haven't been with anyone else. I'm worried if he does have it, he will point the finger at me as having passed it on to him!
He has had tests last week, he has to go back for results today.

    • ANSWER:
Gonorrhea is caused by a infection. Signs and symptoms include painful urination, yellow pus filled discharge from the penis.Usually signs and symptoms will appear in the man first, and should not lay dormant for a long period of time.Women on the other hand will sometimes show no signs or symptoms of this infection.
This to me does not sound like gonorrhea but a testicular problem! If I could suggest something it would be make an appointment with your family physician and have him check it out!

  12. QUESTION:
Herpes, Genital Warts, Male Yeast Infection?
Four months ago i had unprotected vaginal sex for 10 seconds (long story, dont want to tell). I got painful urination 10 days later as well as found out I had a swollen testicle (got tested for gonorhea and chlamydia= both negative). I started to have an itchy penis only around the tip area about 2-3 months later

I also went to a doctor about painful urination and he said these symptoms were like herpes but i didnt have any sores so I probably dont have it... The tip of my penis is where the pain/itching is... i also pinch alot to try and see if there is anything there. I've been drinking a lot of water in thinking it might have been a yeast infection and it makes me feel better, and have not had painful urination in about a week, but still when i think about something wrong with my penis, there is still some itching. do u think this is a yeast infection?

Also have groin infection, known as jock itch, which is a sort of yeast but i dont think it can move to the penis
I just looked on the inside of the penis hole and it looks a little red

    • ANSWER:
Nope, sounds like NGU due to one of the other organisms, probably M. genitalium or Ureaplasma. I've seen several similar cases. The first line of treatment is azithromycin 1 g orally x 1 only. The backup now is moxifloxacin 400 mg daily x 7. Herpes is unlikely and can be excluded by a blood test. Yeast infections can get to the penis -- balanitis -- but there needs to be a visible rash. My bill's in the mail...

  13. QUESTION:
    Herpes? or Injured Urethra?

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like gonorrhea but you don't mention discharge. Next most likely candidate is chlamydia. It doesn't sound like herpes.

  14. QUESTION:
    Could this be testicular cancer?
Two years ago my left testicle would swell up and be painful for about 20 minutes once every other week, Plus I had a dull pain in my abdomen. I know these are signs of something wrong, but nothing showed up in my doctors tests. Recently these symptoms have started up again. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow, but has this happened to anyone else?

  16. QUESTION:
    Please can somebody help?
I'm 13 years old and I don't know if I have normal puberty symptoms or not. These are some problems I have been having:swollen testicles, bad breath, sweaty palms, nervous twitch, loss of bladder control, extremely painful diarrhea, cold sweats, panic attacks, social anxiety disorder and acne. Some times the kids laugh at me when my pants fall down and they see my big, dirty bum.

    • ANSWER:
sounds like a bit too much beer...swolen testicles can be fun, bad breath is not. Sweaty palms nervous twitch and loss of bladder control are symptoms of a first date, while extremely painful pooping is not. Cold sweats, panic attacks and social anxieties are pretty much normal for a 13 year-old, and so is acne, but having a large soiled buttock area is not normal in places where running water is available. I wish you luck.

  17. QUESTION:
    Epididymitis? Something else?
Right, so, here are my symptoms:

Initial pain for the first 2-3 days in the right testicle. It's been 5 days - this is my third day on medication. That said, the pain had switched from constant and somewhat sharp to an on-and-off dull ache in day 2 - so it may not be necessarily anti-biotic related that it went away.

When masturbating, my semen usually alternated between silver and white. Now it's silver with chunks of white in it, which hadn't happened before the testicle started hurting. Likewise, my urine is cloudy.

A swollen, formerly painful "lump" at the bottom of the right testicle, which I'm a tad too afraid to touch, but when I last felt it it was quite soft and squishy - I'm likewise pretty sure it could move away from the testicle. Perhaps inflamed epididymis? I don't know.

The right testicle feels softer than the left one, feels much looser (I can breath in and the left one moves up - the right one only moves up when the testicles retract), feels generally thinner, and hangs significantly lower than the left one when sitting down (when laying on my back, it's the left one hanging slightly lower) in addition to often leaning "forward" when compared to the left one which seemingly constantly points slightly towards rather than away from my body.

Occasional (it periodically reappears and goes away) saggy flesh below both testicles, that I'm quite positive was never there before.

I went to see a doctor at one of those quick walk-in clinic places, he thinks it's likely epididymitis with a very low alternate possibility of torsion. He checked for a hernia, so it likely isn't that. I've been prescribed medicine (doxycycline) - the pain has largely gone away, but the lump is still there, and the semen and testicle weirdness likewise still persist.

    • ANSWER:
A testicular lump that doesn't hurt may be a sign of cancer. Most cases of testicular cancer occur when men are between ages 15 and 40, although it can happen at older or younger ages. So I would go to your doctor and have it checked out. Better to be safe and cure it now than wait and have it spread.

  21. QUESTION:
abdominal, chest and testicular pain. help please.?
Hey all, for basic info, i'm a 22 male with negative on STD screen. My symptoms areL For the past 2 weeks i've been in some serious pain. It started in my testicles. They were swelling and extremely painful, so I went to the hospital get looked at. They thought it was epididimitis. They gave me some antibiotics and pain killers and sent me on my way. a week later, the pain was still there, and it moved up to my right abdomen and lower back, as well as my right chest. The abdomen feels sore to the touch and a little hard. My right back has sharp pain. My right chest feels like it's full or under pressure. I went back to the hospital, they said it was not epididitamitis, and told me to go see a urologist. I unfortunately do not have insurance, and they expect payment at time of service, which would have been between 0-00. I can't afford it, so I've been sitting it out for the past 5 days since. The pain in my testicles have gotten a little better, but the pain in my abdomen and chest are worse. My question to you guys is what does this sound like, and what are my options? I'd feel rediculous showing up to the same hospital, I have about 4 in the general area. Should I go to a new one? Help please.

  22. QUESTION:
Is this testicular problem the first of its kind, or has it never been documented in the history of man?
Hello, recently i've been experiencing a very sore, red, tender scrotum for an unexplainable reason. I dont have any other symptoms one would expect (one testicle in paticular hurting, extreme pain, blood in the urinal tract, pain urinating, epiditimitys, ect ect.) and i am becoming very frustrated in the search for what exactly is wrong with me.

Since the conception of the issue, ive take 5 different prescription medications that have been prescribed to me by my family doctor , two emerge doctors and a urologist (levofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole-trimethaprim, novamoxim, reactine and a prescription painkiller) to insure that it was not a bacterial infection. My symptoms have not altered since taking any of these pills, and ive only suffered a painful reaction to the levofloxacin. every doctor ive seen, including my urologist (doctor that specializes in the urinary tract/genitals) have concluded that they are 100% unsure of what i am experiencing. i have had a testicular ultrasound, an STD swab test, several urine tests, a prostate exam, and these have all turned up perfectly normal, yet my issue is still undiagnosed.

i've done my research over the week, and ive checked the symptoms of typical causes such as the epidytimis being swollen or infected, testicular torsion, varioceles, ect ect .. and nothing seems to explain what my issue is.

Please, can someone relate to what i'm experiencing? all of my doctors are throwing antibiotics at me and telling me the only thing they can imagine is that it is an allerlgic reaction, yet i am unsure of how this can be, considering i havent altered how my clothes have been washed or dried in years. The only other information i can provide is that it happened once before, about a month before this, and i was prescribed the sulfamethoxazole-trimethaprim for 5 days, and symptoms happened to go, and then return. The medication i'm taking now should cover what the sulfameth covered plus more, so i dont understand how this can be. Can anybody explain to me what is going on? i am in desperate need of a solution for this issue, and i plan to request surgical measures over the next few days if i am not presented with any new information as to what could be causing the issue. I am severely discomforted by this thought, however i have no other options considering i have already seen many doctors and have been told nothing about what i am experiencing.
Thanks for your speedy responses guys, and yes, it's become very frustrating to know that i have something seriously wrong and cannot diagnose it for whatever reason.

Although i agree with crossing a varicocele and torsion out of the picture, i honestly dont know what else to do but assume the ultrasound failed somehow. the symptoms are closest to having a varicocele, and even then they arent very similar.

This isn't my real information and i can't email you my symptoms, but i can tell you currently the worst points of discomfort are when i am exposed to heat (scrotum relaxes and expands, creating a much higher probability for damage to become inflicted upon the testicles because they are hanging much lower and are very loose, increased pain as well). The general pain is not strong on its own, but i am severely llimited to movement and activity because of this.

i fear my "expert" urologist with his 2 minute examination of my issue may have missed something.
Also, if this helps, ive noticed sometimes my testicles will appear to slowly be moving around inside the scrotum. not nessecarily twisting, but i can see and feel a slight motion sometimes through my left testicle. maybe this is the cold air constriction slowly taking place, or like i fear, a varicocele in its early stages causing a pulsation that alteres the state of my left testicle.

    • ANSWER:
Either they cannot diagnoses it or do not see what the problem is.

I am not of the belief this is something new, but you certainly are not getting the proper answers you seek to this and it must get tiring going from doctor to doctor and just given more pills to take

  24. QUESTION:
    Gonorrhea related question.?
hi, about a week ago i posted this question, and was told it looked more like gonorrhea than anything else

    - im a 19 year old male with a number of symptoms bringing me to varying conclusions. about 4 weeks ago i had unprotected oral sex with a completely unknown female, and then about 3 days afterwards i noticed the very tip and opening of my penis was itching. this then developed over a period of a few days to be a blotchy redness that was quite tender, but was limited to the urethra and around the frenum. this was accompanied by a tender lump or swelling in my groin on the right-hand side in the tube just under the skin. i also experienced some mild discomfort when urinating, and have in the past experienced a sensation where i feel i need to pee badly, but nothing or only a few drops come out. no blisters were ever present, so i did some research and came to the conclusion that it must be either a uti or thrush, so i went and got some canesten (with bifonazole). although this relieved most of the symptoms, this dried my penis out terribly, so i stopped using it after about 4 or 5 days. i then went and bought some other anti fungal cream (miconazole nitrate) and have been using that for about 7 days now. some days i have no symptoms, and other days it comes back in a couple of patches next to the frenum, but this always happens when ive urinated and not made sure my penis was completely clean of urine, so it seems like my urine has some sort of nasty quality. as i understand it, if it was thrush, i would have been clear well before now (unless im using the wrong creams??), and im unsure if a uti could cause the visible redness if left unattended?? or could this still be herpes, seeing as ive had no blisters, never had a cold-sore on any part of my body, and nothing particularly painful per-say, and the symptoms are mild, but sporadic. as it stands, the urethra has a slight irritation, but there is a mild redness on either side of the frenum under the foreskin. also i am still wearing the same pairs of underwear, as in i have not bought any new pairs since this all started. my diet is questionable, and my immune system has not been known to be the greatest, and i have recently altered my body-clock to work night shifts, and this has caused some stress. any help would be immensely appreciated, as its distressing me quite a lot.

    - but since then, ive also noticed that the redness is going away, (still a little redness around the urethra, but not as much) and its only a minor discomfort when urinating BUT - ive noticed a swelling of the entire epididymis of my left testicle, and it has throbbed fairly painfully on a couple of occasions, but ive only noticed a VERY small and sporadic amount of yellowish discharge if any. does this still sound like gonorrhea?

This is yahoo, not a specialist medical centre.

If you want someone to tell you that you don't have an STD so you can go on your merry way and get further infected and spread things around, then you DONT have an STD.

If you want to be an adult and look after your health then grow up and go to the Dr.

Well im not sure when but starting around september, i started having anxiety problems. the anxiety problems made me think that i was going to have a heart attack. i read that anxiety causes heart attack-like symptoms but i always thought "WHAT IF". a few months later, i thought i had a retinal tear because i saw floaters in my eye and had anxiety every night. i also thought i had prostate cancer because of painful urination and stuff. i got over the retinal tear but the fear of prostate cancer moved onto testicular cancer because there was a lump next to my testicle and back pain. i thought i had jaw cancer because there was a lump under my jaw but the doctor said it was a swollen lymph gland. that made me think i had HIV because i got colds pretty easily and for a long time. then i thought i had alzheimers or some weird disease because im really bad at remembering things (takes me a while to remember what i ate for lunch). i also forgot what i did during the week. im really good at vocab though. my memory seems to sleep deep in my brain until someone wakes it up. each of these lasted for a few months and now i found out the lump in my testicle is epididymitis, so i feel kind of relieved. but now i think i have an infected appendix because sometimes i have pain on the lower right. sometimes its on the lower left. i always tell myself its nothing but theres always that "WHAT IF". i also am scared of things following me in the hallway because of a scary movie i watched at school and im afraid to walk alone in my apartment. i recently started lifting weights(2 months) and the anxiety went away. but im taking a 1 week break right now and all of my anxiety is coming back. why am i like this? and does lifting weights have something to do with the relief?

  27. QUESTION:
Please answer my question about herpes.?
Hello, I am a 15 year old male and I feel sick to my stomach even talking about this. When I was about 13 (7th Grade) I may have been exposed to herpes. I was stupidly, With a girl who had a bad reputation. She gave me a handjob, and started to give me a bj but stopped. She barely even put her whole mouth on my penis for more then 3 seconds but I know that is just enough to infect me with it. I DO NOT remember ever having any herpes symptoms several days after that happened, But what is happening now has happened maybe two times before. The first time it happened may have been over 5 months since my initial contact with the girl who may or may not have had herpes. I never had ANY painful urination at all, Or anything of that sort. What seemed to happen was, I had a red bump swell up on the bottom shaft of my penis (very close to where the shaft meets the scrotum) It was red, like I said, and seemed to be slightly sensitive to the touch, but when it was not being poked at etc, it did not hurt. Me, being stupid, popped it and a clearish, puss came out, It seemed to shrink, then over a short period of time turned a slightly purplish color, and healed, and went away. It felt no more painful then what it does popping a pimple on your face or something, I can't remember any major pain when I popped it. There was no discharge other then when I popped it. I remember this same issue happening possibly a second time, the same exact thing happened. Recently I found out that I have what appears to be sebaceous cysts on my testicles. They are completely different then the bump I am now referring to. For the past week I had been stressing that the cysts may be herpes. I stressed so much I was making myself sick and majorly depressed. I THEN noticed I had this same issue again, the red bump which seemed to be a raisedinfected hair follicle again, I popped it, and the same discharge as the previous times came out. It seemed to heal over, and returned to the way it was when I first got it, But now I can't pop it. (this particular bump has been here for about three days) I have had swollen glands in my neck, and one in my groin area swelled up for a VERY short period of time and I think I have been worrying about it so much I'm mentally causing myself to think every little thing is a sign of herpes, I keep thinking about it and I get these warm sensations in my penis, But I never got a single one of these symptoms with the previous bumps. I am terrified to tell my parents, my doctor, AND my current girlfriend (we've been dating for 11 months and have had no sexual contact and don't plan on it for a long time) I love her very much and don't want to lose her. My parents think I've never had any sexual encounters and they'd be EXTREMLEY dissapointed in me. All week I've felt like crying, I've done nothing but sleep and lay around and be depressed because I'm so terrified. I feel like my world is crumbling apart. I thought I'd add that the bump is the ONLY one. I don't have any like that anywhere else.
I also wanted to add that it is NOT open, It is not bleeding, nor has it at all since I got it. It only hurts when I mess with it, But not THAT bad. It only aches if I try to mess with it or if it rubs against my clothes, I did shave within the past two weeks, also. It occured a few days after shaving to be exact, Not sure about the other times I got it.
***ALSO**** A couple days ago my girlfriend was sitting on my lap (fully clothed, %100) jeans on and all, both of us, and was playfully moving around (she wasn't trying to be completely sexual, just trying to bug me) and her jeans kind of irritated my penis. I'm wondering if this caused a hair follicle to flame up or something
